Preparing to move to AK

Post by r3vo_3vom »

so for the last 4 or so months my wife and i have been saving $$ to move to Fairbanks Ak. while doing this ive been on the hunt for a good ford 4x4 that is with in my price range(which isnt much). two days ago i got a call from a good friends father inlaw and said i could have his 75 chevy 4x4 flatbed for the amazing one time payment of $0. and from what i have gathered from him is all it needs is a starter and a new carb and the copper tubing ran for the oil pressure sending unit. but he has the starter and the copper tubing. he also has new doors and front corner panels (both in primer) to replace the old rusted ones. i figure if i go get the truck for the $55 trailer rental fee, maybe 10 gallons of gas and about $300 for a new 500 cfm carb ill drive the chevy. and worst case i can always try to sell it after i put 4 or $500 into it and will make out on the positive side.

thats what i plan on doing with it.

the only thing thats gettin me is when i move i think i will end up leaving my 68 f100 here in boise while im going to school in fairbanks. while there i was thinking that ill start to save some money monthly then when i get the first oil check my 2nd year there ill ask my step dad to take it to a shop and get the 360 upgraded to a mild 390 and also rebuild the c6. then when i come back to visit ill have a nice truck to run around in. :D

Good fortune to you and your wife in Fairbanks. There certainly is work there. Our oldest Daughter and her Husband live there. They sure like it. We also have two grand daughters and some great grands there.

i picked up the truck Sunday. its a bit nicer than i thought it was going to be. he pulled a wench off of a 1ton wrecker and put it on front bumper. there are tons of extra parts for it also. ill post some pictures later this week after i get back to where it is stored.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. Good luck up in Alaska. My wife used to live there years ago.
