I met someone famous

Post by Eric L »

so my oldest boy (13) and I went to the Sacramento Autorama yesterday.. nice cars.. but not enough of 'em.. Goodguy's show are much better IMO.

Anyway we were looking at some t-shirts to buy and I had a question about a certain shirt in a certain color, so asked the guy sitting at the counter that didn't seem to be doing anything important.. "are the log sleeve shirts available in black?" "I dont know, you"ll have ho ask the girls over there" pointing to his right at the ladies actually selling shirts and taking money about 4 feet away. "oh, I'm sorry, ...what are you selling?" I asked. "I'm signing autographs" he replied. "Oh, your famous?" .. "yeah, I have a TV show on the Speed Channel" .. "oh, I dont get Speed".. Poor guy

and here's a pic of the best truck in the whole place.. whats kinda odd is it was in the Goodguys booth, and they generally like older (than the bump) cars at their shows.

Been there, done that.

Back when my son was about 5 years old, we went to the drag races at Rockingham. Actually, we got free tickets from a friend who worked for RJR. We had pit passes, so we got to tour all of the pits. :D

Here we are, with a "deer-in-the-headlights" five-year-old, who thinks all of these guys are sent from heaven.

We toured the pits for two days, and none of the drivers would even take a few seconds to autograph a picture for him.

Then we came upon John Force. John not only autographed a picture, he took about 10 minutes to talk with a kid who was at his first drag race. :D

Prior to that time, I thought John was one of the most arrogant people I'd ever seen.

Now, I'm one of his biggest fans!!!

Ashley Force is ALSO one of my favorite drivers!!!

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

I saw that truck just after it was completed, sitting in the Sacramento Vintage Ford showroom. You could smell the paint. Its definately one of the trucks I think of when I picture the perfect 2wd bump.

I could not agree more that John Force is a class act. He always has time for fans and is always positive. I would guess he is one of the biggest reasons drag racing as a whole is drawing more and more fans. There doesn't seem to be as many prima donnas in that sport, like Nascar used to be. Just a bunch of guys who love to go fast, win, and give credit where credit is due: God, their team and the fans.

I think they all know they are going to be measured against Mr. Force and that helps keep them on track.

I used to work in Beverly Hills when I was younger and got to meet quite a few celebrities over the years. At first I was excited to meet someone, but after a while it became hum-drum, so to speak. Some of them where down-to-earth people and we interacted just like normal folk and others were, well, not so social.

Dorothy Hamil came in one day needing her Rolls Royce washed. It had got dirtied on the way to some function and she refused to show up in a dirty car.

Mohammad Ali came in with his BMW (he drove) and I filled it up with gas.

Sony Bono walked through the shop once, smiled and said "Hi" to me.

The list could go on if I thought about it a while.

My best celeb story is when Billy Dee Williams drove in. I think he was driving a BMW. Billy Dee Williams was in Star Wars.

So "Billy Dee" pulls into the gas station to get gas, I was working the full server that day. (This is dated.) A couple of the guys came running out screaming and shouting, "Billy Dee, Billy Dee". They were black as was Billy Dee and I was clueless, so I figured it must be a black thing (I'm white if it matters) and went about my job. At some point in this jumping up and down ritual, my co-workers asked me why I wasn't excited, "Don't you know who Billy Dee is?"

"Oh sure. He's a Rock-n-Roll star." I tried to play it off as if.

So I washed his windows, check the oil, finished the gas and got his credit card. Sho'nuf, it said "Billy Dee Williams". I filled out the credit card paper and handed it to Billy Dee and said, "Can I have your autograph please."

Billy Dee laughed as he signed for the gas and his "fans" acted as if I had insulted him or them. Billy Dee drove away and I started jumping around waving the credit card paper yelling, "Look, I got Billy Dee's autograph."

Several years ago John Force was signing autographs at the drag strip.
A long line formed ,John signed right up to the very time he had to
get in the car. Many people were still in line including a small girl in a wheelchair,
John got up & walked several yards past the people standing in line to the little
girl in the wheelchair , gave her his autograph & got in his car.
Ever since then I am a John Force fan.

I never heard of him either, based on that picture I don't need to know anything else about him...
