That looks like a braket for a towing reciever of some kind. It is definetly not factory. I would grind it off at those welds. I have carage on the back of my 70 that shows how bad it can get if you try and cut off something with a torch.

I think it's a mounting bracket for different lights for different bumpers. On my truck a set of lights for the chrome bumper (it has the original farm bumper on it) is mounted on it.

If this is on a Camper Special, I'd almost bet it's for the Factory Installed Rear Camper Bumper that was adjustable. My 68 F250 CS had a simular type (if I remember correctly). The bumper had long C shaped rails with an X brace support from one side to the other. It should have another just like it on the other side. This allowed the owner to slide it in and out for the lenth of the camper. Ray

Its a bracket for the rear sliding bumper for campers. My F-350 has a slideout bumper too. I would not remove it.

my 67 has a slide out bumper and it doesnt use that bracket at all. but it may be different than other slide out bumpers. mine has the slide part in the center. and you unbolt the center bar as both frame brackets and it slides right out. i can only guess that it has to botl to the camper with the bumper brackets. because the center doesnt have a bolt up place once it is slid all the way out.
