Another Prayer Request
This is from a close friend of ours. The child is her niece.

Local toddler is in need of kidney donor Phil Latham platham@marshallnewsmessenger.com The Marshall News Messenger | 0 comments
The search is on for a kidney donor for 16-month-old Charley Rae Furrh of Marshall who is undergoing life-saving dialysis at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas until a proper match can be found.
Charley Rae, the daughter of Drew and Ashley Furrh, was born with only one functioning kidney. The parents were told shortly after birth that the child’s non-functioning kidney would have to be eventually be removed.
Using the Website caringbridge.com, the parents explained what happened during the procedure to remove the kidney that did not develop.
”We were told this procedure was routine and that it should only take a couple of hours, three at the most.... Three hours and a bit more, we were summoned to the recovery room and told that Charley was great and getting ready to wake up. We felt relief and thanked God for seeing our little girl through the surgery.
“After a few hours in recovery we noticed that she had not passed as much as one drop of urine. After seven hours of waiting with no results, they decided to do an ultrasound to see what could be holding up her good kidney from passing urine. Imagine our shock when the ultrasound tech said she couldn't find the kidney! They told us it was probably just because of the air they used to expand the abdomen and that they would repeat the ultrasound with the radiologist and surely he would have better results.
“Our hearts sank when he was unable to locate the kidney at all! At this point, they regrouped, reviewed past scans and decided to do a nuclear scan and surely this would explain everything.
“At approximately 8 p.m., our doctor came to the room and told us that somehow, when removing the bad kidney, he found the bad kidney to be the shape of a horseshoe and in attempting to remove the entire bad kidney, he compromised the good kidney and now there was no longer any function left. As a matter of fact, he had actually removed it as well. Hence the empty ultrasounds.”
Charley Rae was then rushed to Children’s Medical Center last Tuesday and prepped for dialysis. She has been at the hospital since.
To this point, dialysis is not working well enough to consider allowing Charley Rae to return to Marshall or leave the hospital.
“The dialysis is keeping her alive, but it is not working right,” Drew said, explaining that it will take time for doctors to determine the best course of treatment for the child.. “It is not working well enough for her to come home.”
Because Charley Rae is so small, finding a kidney match is more difficult.
Mrs. Furrh said her child’s blood type is O-positive.
Other attributes sought in a possible donor are:
A person who is small in size.
Preferably ages 18-25, but up to 55 years old.
A low body-mass index.
A non-smoker.
A generally healthy lifestyle.
Mrs. Furrh urged anyone who is interested in being a donor for Charley Rae to contact the hospital even if they don’t think they meet the criteria, as the doctors will know best.
If you believe you are a match you can contact Ms. Furrh by e-mail at ashleychandlerm@yahoo.com You can also contact the transplant team at Children’s Medical Center directly at 214-456-2546, or toll free at 800-846-6768. If calling the hospital directly, give them Charley Rae Furrh’s name.
Mrs. Furrh said it would likely take six to nine months before the transplant could be done.
She also wanted to thank those in the Marshall area who have prayed and asked about Charley Rae.
“There are not words to express our gratitude and love for those who have reached out to our little girl and our family,” Mrs. Furrh said. “It is so great to live in such a wonderful community. It is a blessing.
“We feel every one of their prayers and we thank them so much.”
Those who wish to donate to help defray the family’s medical expenses can do so at A-Plus Finance Company at 200 E. Grand Ave.
Also a prayer vigil is planned for Charley Rae and her family at 5:30 p.m. Thursday on the courthouse square.
Those interested in daily updates on Charley Rae can find them at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/charl ... 10/mystory.

Re: Another Prayer Request
My prayers are also sent out to little Charley Rae.
It just doesn't seem fair for any child to not be given a chance at life.

Ditto. Hard to bear when any child suffers, always through no fault of their own as they are innocent in the eyes of the Lord. Prayers for the little one that she is given a long lease on life.
