Call this a safety message if you will. My daughter is almost 3 and loves playing in my truck. She generally asks for permission and I let her when it's parked on level ground. Well yesterday I had the truck parked at the top of the driveway and she got in and started playing... And pulled it out of gear... and it rolled down the driveway and into my Bradford pear tree. So make sure you have a parking brake on and chock the wheels of your truck if you let your children play in them on a hill.
Luckily it only looks like the bumper (from pulling it out/off of the tree) and headlight bucket were damaged beyond repair. I'll know more when I get the headlight bucket off. I was able to run to her as it was rolling, pull the door open and apply the brakes some before it hit. Could have been a lot worse and no one was hurt.

Glad all is well, that sounds like it must have scared you. Lesson learned.

Re: A warning to parents
My friend totaled his dads BMW when he was young. This was like the mid-ish 80's so I think it was either a 5 or 7 series. I just remember it bing kind of big, and I just know it wasn't a 3 series.
Dad was actually kind of Happy since he could get another one. But he locked the doors, and set the parking brakes like his personal religion afterwards.

Reminds me of when I broke the windscreen on my dads Goldwing. I tried climbing up on it but lost my balance and dropped it. The thing weighed more than 800 pounds more than me.

Re: A warning to parents
I was four or five, we lived on a farm in the flat part of Colorado. Dad had to do something and jumped out of the truck out by the barn. I was playing with the dog, and chucked the truck into gear. I remember standing on the seat looking in the mirror and my Dad running for the truck. It was an old 71 Ford F100, my Dad has always loved these old trucks
Back to topic, I let my kids play in the bed of my truck, never in the cab I just feel better about it that way, glad no one was hurt!

Glad she wasn't hurt. You have to watch them kids that is for sure. My son was about that age when my wife stopped to talk to her parents and left him sitting in his car seat. A little Dodge D50 pickup with 5 speed. He reached over and turned the key and the engine started in 1st. They all had to jump out of the way to keep from being hit as it went past them and into the back of another car. I guess there was not a NSS or it wasn't working. No real damage. Scared them but my son had a blast and was laughing about it.
