Sounds familiar. Sounds like when I did the motor for my 63 impala, but I was realistic about my production schedule to build a motor. I got another block to build with while it took me two years to build the motor.

I like that! Mind if I use it? I'm 52 years old and I've been blessed with a good steady job for the past 14 years. Kids are grown and moved out. Got a garage and a workshop, built in the tall crawlspace under the house, dug out by hand with pick and shovel. I've wanted to do this for the past 20 years. I got my bump almost 7 years ago and I've had $25 a paycheck going into a credit union bank account for the first 2 years and then upped it to $50 for the past year, just for this reason. That account's been wiped out several times for one emergency or another over that time but I've kept hanging on to it, hoping for enough time to go by without an emergency to get me started. If work is doing well, I get a bonus based on shipment dollars, it's in my job description to hit those targets and I'm responsible for making it happen from a materials and scheduling standpoint. Half of that bonus goes to the household, half to the bump account. In the meantime, I dipped into the bump account any time a part came by that I was looking for, many of which came from this forum (thanks fordman! and many other members who've helped ). It's been a long road and I'm not fooling myself into thinking I'm going to knock it out in a month or two. I'm conservatively planning on 2 years. I bought a '90 Toyota Camry a month ago for a DD while I get started, also part of the plan. I've got an Excel spreadsheet I've been building for 2 years that has about every part I need on it along with the vendor, part number and price, at the time, I sourced it. Everything from anti rattle kits to the a/c dryer to the rear suspension bushings. I've got pics and videos of many of the complicated procedures like replacing door/window weatherstripping to Duraspark install to 3G alternator swap. I've got 6 weeks vacation time accumulated and I've scheduled 4 weeks of it around key points of the project, the other 2 are reserved for the wife  I really don't have anything else to occupy my time outside of work and wife. I'm looking for to it and I'm be leaning on you guys on a regular basis to fill in my knowledge gaps. None of this would have been possible without Fordification.com. Thank you Keith and all the moderators and members! :fr:

P.S. Overly dramatic, I know, but I had to get that out.

I wouls plan it out to take longer, small bites vs. huge meals. I get whooped after a few days of grinding on the truck and need a couple days rest (at work) to get back at it...

You know i may start looking into that so far the 390 i got from fordman has lasted 2 1/2 three years and still fires almost instantly, just started smoking a few months back, but it did sit all summer.

but if i can get a few hundred saved and pick up a good block with nothing realy needed, then perhaps i can get one atleast cleaned up if not completly long blocked. last i checked i could get a 390 long blocked up in Jasper,Mo for 1500. funny thing is i priced the 302 at the same time and it was 2500 long blocked. funny the smaller engine is more expensive.

That would be your 5.0 mustang guys keeping the price jacked up  They think they're BAD! Just kidding.

Thanks for all the support guys. I realize 2 years may be a little optimistic but ya gotta have a goal!

Randy,

Good for you man!
It took me five years of saving up pieces and parts to finally be able to have enough to start my build.
I don't think my truck will ever be finished though... :D
