I need some HELP?
Ok....hope this is considered general. Ive posted a few issues on here, had a lot of helpful responses and appreciate them all. I'm getting to whits end and hoping for input. brief history: i bought a 68 f100 longbed, 2wd, 390, 3 speed. the engine smoked really bad, found a later model 390 attached to a C6, pulled the 390, 3speed and put in the 390/c6, ran into the issues of the half shaft, cross member, shifter, cooler, trans lines and decided that i would be better of to stick with the 3 on the tree. so i got really motivated after work yesterday and set my mind that the C6 was coming out. I got everything unbolted and apparently the tranny isnt coming out unless the engine comes out as well. Am I right? Any tricks? Keep in mind that this endeavor has been me by myself and everything thats been done (with the exception of unloading and loading the engine hoist) and in my driveway. Any advice greatly appreciated!!!!I

If you have a hoist, pull the motor.
I for one am not a big fan of hanging a 75lb flywheel under the truck.

Re: I need some HELP?
Since it was equipped with a manual transmission from the factory, the center crossmember (the one between the radius arm brackets) would be riveted in.
The crossmember was bolted in on automatic trucks.
That crossmember has to be removed to pull an auto tranny without pulling the engine. So, your two choices are to either remove the engine or drill/cut out the rivets so you can pull the crossmember.
One other thing is that the C6 needs the tall hump cover. Manual 3-speed trucks did not have a removable cover. It might work okay, but it's awful tight. The floorboard is marked so that it can be cut out correctly if you decide to keep the C6.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???
That's not an oil leak

yes the crossmember has to come out if you want to remove the trans from the bottom of the truck.
