Thanks "terry1167" and "Manny" for the comments...

Doing a little here and there as money allows this site is what keeps me thinking. I like to share as people may have the same idea and want some options.

Rejetted the Carb today. After checking the plugs I replace recently they were still white after 200 miles. I believe she is running a bit lean. No melting of the plugs just clean white. Went from a 65 jet to a 67 jet on the Holley and will update with any news.

So I did a full shake down last week. Camping trip 400+ miles round trip pulling a travel trailer (5500lbs) and a bed full of stuff (1000lbs). 90 Degrees outside and in the flatlands all was good, tranny holding at 240 degrees and water temp 210.

Then came the full court press 4500 foot elevation gain in 10 miles. Temps climbed to 235 water and 270 transmission. Had to take a break at 3.3, 5.7 and 8 miles to let things cool down.

I learned a few things about my Ford F250 Camper Special: It is a great truck and handles quite well for its age actually rides better with a load.

Notes: If you have an electric fan make sure you can have it run with the ignition off, this will keep you from smoking your coil and ignition parts while you attempt to cool your truck down. I had to replace the coil when I got home because the overheating (ignition on) caused oil to seep from the coil and a weak spark. Also this did not make my Pertronix Igniter very happy with the heat and leaving the key on.

It got so bad but I was fine on the return trip in the flatlands. There is a small hill before my house (1000ft) and I had to drive around it at 35MPH because of the above mentioned items.

Did not burn one ounce of oil and never overheated (boilover)!! I do believe my water to antifreeze is off (I have too much antifreeze) I think if I fix this it may run cooler.....

Can anyone mention a truck of newer years that can limp home on 6 cylinders pulling a ton of weight? It would be a AAA candidate!!!! I just wanted to share!!! :woohoo:

Took her for a trip to the Good Guys "Get Together 2011" Pleasanton, CA. The only bump I saw inside was mine. There were a few in the for sale area that were in pretty bad shape. As my buddy said, "These are turds"

Nothing importnat to note on the project.

I am fighting over heating coil and coil manufacture defects... More to come when I get a solution I am happy with.

Hey Hemmi glad to know your shakedown went okay I have fried a coil myself with the key on problem. I don't think your antifreeze is bad off 50/50 under any pressure will hold 230f without much trouble That 270 outta the auto trans woulda freaked me out though.

Oh and yes these trucks ride way better loaded!!!!! Still looking good.

Thanks again for the positive thought Manny!!

I may be going back to a stock output coil and using the resitor wire setup. I do not think Pertronix coils are the greatest. They can't handle the heat and 13.7 volts of power from the 3G alternator upgrade.

Updates to come.

Did take it for a spin to the Dentist today. :o Made a painful day a bit more enjoyable!! :drive:

I used the bolt from the original alternator and tapped new treads in the 3G...
