Superb find. And for that condition I think it is money well spent and great value. One will never find anything that good in the future.

Congrats...I s'pose the next question will be how to remove the fire department lettering without doing too much harm to the paint...You really hate to do too much messing with the originality of the truck...

Thems some sharp lookin wheels buddy.
Now that is all over with and is pretty much yours...I will say this. Unlike most people, I am not at all a "brand loyal" guy. I will drive or own just about anything that I have deemed cool in my own head. Even if it's junk, it can still be cool to me. Now, having said that...I will say that the bump side pickups are the most quality constructed older truck I have ever owned (and I have owned a lot). Everything works pretty smooth, shuts with a solid thump, squeaks and rattles are much less on that of compared years of other makes. They really are a solid truck all the way around.
Also...in a slightly different vein...last year, I sold a 79 F350 4x4 supercab Lariat with 68,000 original miles on it, on E-bay. It went for 18,800 to a guy in Alaska. So yes, I think you got a great deal.
Do you HAVE to take the emblem off the door? I actually think it's kinda cool.

Thats what I'm worried about. Not sure how I'm going to do it. It has been on there for 41 years so that will be a problem. Any suggestions?

I like it with the lettering. A good hand painted lettering job is pretty rare now since sign companies started using computer cut vinyl. If you really have to take it off, Easy Off oven cleaner will take the lettering off without harming the auto paint. It's been years since I've done it so Easy Off may have changed the formula so try it on a small area first.

Ya know...I think the lettering ruined the truck. I'll give you 10,100 for it...I will just have to hang my head in shame about leaving the lettering on it when I drive it around..

Red paint fades the most out of any other color. I would think that after 40 years, you're going to have a bit of a color mismatch problem if you take those letters off. But that wouldn't worry me. Because I think the letters should stay!!!!!!

You are correct about fading and especially red. When I've removed lettering, no matter what the color, you could always see the difference in the color where the lettering was. The customer usually wanted more lettering over where the old lettering was so the faded area wasn't as noticeable. Since the fire truck was stored in a garage most of the time, it may not have faded.

There is some good tips on lettering removal at:

71Ford and Montana 71 are right. My uncle removed some lettering on an old F350 tow truck long ago. The truck was green and in good shape. The paint underneath the lettering was unfaded, and although slight, was clearly a different shade than the weathered paint. You could see it clear as day. Montana may have a point. Maybe your truck isn't faded since it was always garaged and taken such good care of.
