Well here we go again. Finally got another day off (after six in a row)... Finished up the passenger side frame mount and am working on the drivers side.

Material is 1/4" x 4" hot rolled steel. I oversize drilled the back set of OEM frame holes, the tops to 1/2" and the lowers for 7/16" bolts. Made base plates for the hardware and then side plates to connect the dots. The factory crossmember is around 5/32 thick (if that) so these are pretty stout. The second gen mounts are 4" wide





This pic shows the offset from the bottom mounting bolts.




And finally, remember to have the radiator support installed before locking down the motor so you know everything will fit when put back together.


Now the other fenders and radiator support is off so I can do the drivers side. More to come.

Jamie, your making it look easy to put 6bt in a truck. Im sure your mileage will double when the truck gets back on the road, along with the power. Thanks for the pictures as your going along, Makes me want one in mine

Thanks guys, today has been a bust so far. I couldn't get the skid loader to start so I pulled the driveshaft outside and found out the 47RH driveshaft doesn't want to fit the 518 but a 727 yoke goes right in. Of course the 727 yoke uses small U joints while the 47RH shaft is large yoke and even looks like it'll fit. I'm 3/4 tempted to go pull the 47RH off the 6BT we pulled the other weekend and swap it in so I can move forward. I do have a narrow perch '89 Ford F350 Sterling rear down at the farm with 3.54 gears that may make it's way up here too.

Ok, today was indeed a 'day of rest', because nothing important was accomplished. I did end up down at the farm and the new gameplan is put the 47RH and Sterling rear in the truck with the '94 driveshaft. The '70 Dana 70 is a small yoke and the wrong housing for the 3.54 gears or even the posi unit I have and the 47RH yoke doesn't fit the 518 and I want a lock up torque convertor in the auto. The tranny is filthy so I need a warm day to bath it. I'll end up pulling the engine and tranny combo out and swapping the tranny on the floor.

Three more days of work and maybe I can get back into it if the weather breaks.

I think this is one awesome project. I love the idea of putting newer diesels into bump f350. I wonder, has anyone tried this swap with maybe a 90s powerstroke 7.3?

Here's the thread on my '71 F250 with the 6.9 / ZF 5sp setup. I stopped on it because the bed was too rusty and I really wanted to run a cummins engine in it. Difference between a NA 6.9 and a stock 5.9 6BT is huge... Everything fit pretty well once I did a 1.5" body lift. Only weak spot was the factory firewall defected with the hydraulic clutch. Of course the '71 Dana 60 used a small U joint

I plan on putting the blue cab on the yellow truck and will keep the yellow cab as a spare.

Well, today I cleaned up the garage while looking for the governor spring I was supposed to put in a friends truck. I misplaced it last week and found one so today I pulled his pump apart only to realise both springs had a 386 on them instead of a 366 (stock vs. 3200)... So I pulled my pump apart to get his running. Loosened the star wheel 1/4 turn, 90` on the pin and a turn on the power screw. Doesn't smoke until you really dip into the throttle in second and then it clears right up. Truck ('93 dually 2wd) seems happy so I'm not going further without a pyro and boost gauge.

Tomorrow it's supposed to be hot so I want to get the skid loader moved out of the way, get the cab, the rear and the 47RH on the trailer and on the way here, then Tuesday pull the engine / tranny out of the truck and put the other tranny on and hopefully back in the truck.

I've been fighting the weather, constant rain. I did give the engine a Rustoleum rebuild yesterday, semigloss black. Went down to the farm and got the rear and 47rh loaded in a '93 Dodge dually I've been running. If my truck ends up running as well as this one I'll be happy. Spent the evening pressure washing the tranny and rear so they are now presentable.

Here's the pics from last week. Supposed to go down tomorrow morning and get the cab and tow truck up here so I've been cleaning up the messes before the daily rain hits us again.

Finally, a good day. Made it to the farm with my oldest Matt and used the skid loader to jockey the '71 to a spot I could use the tow truck to pick the bed and then the cab off. Used a rollback to get the cab home, then picked it with the tow truck. Sadly I couldn't set it on the ground because I couldn't lower the boom far enough so...


Then we took a couple minutes to pop the bed off the truck with the hood and fenders still on and set them on some saw horses. It's surprising how light this aluminum bed is now. Nathan at 8yo and high on Easter chocolate was more of a shutterbug than Matt.


Next up, pop the doors, steering column, seat and brake stuff and away goes the rusty yellow cab...

Since I ran out of picnic tables the Ranchero turned into a rolling storage table. Now they're both out front on the street (getting talked about by the neighbors I'm sure).


Last step for today was drop the blue cab on the back of the truck. Tomorrow I want to get the Cummins back out so I can swap the tranny and once that's back in place, make the tranny mounts, then swap in the '89 F350 Sterling rear with 3.54's.

Popped the engine and tranny out today, took some pics of the difference between the A518 overdrive and 47RH, overdrive with lockup converter for reference. The 47RH uses a thicker engine plate and a different starter to allow for the deeper convertor.





Otherwise spent the day working on my friend '88 Tcoupe
