new paypal agreement

Post by fordman »

has anyone seen this yet? i just looged into paypal and it seems they are going to be sending out tax statements now. and they want to do it electronically. and if you dont agree to the electronic part they will cancel your paypal account. but yet they say you can opt out by mailing to the omaha address. wtf is this all about. i dont have anything to claim on taxes for selling off itmes i bought that are extra. it isnt a business to me. i also dont want to opt in and not have my acct canceled. wft paypal is going to lose me if they do this. this eats me up. this is bull on all fronts i have to agree and i get a tax statement bullsh it! looks like i may go over to bid pay or someplace.

I would not be surprised if the government thinks pay pal might be a new source for income

I used P/P last week for the first time in months and this was my first thought when I read it

i hope you guys didn't get hijacked by a paypal look alike hacker's page.

this is the notice i just got. it saysw electronic delivery i.e emails. but not taxes. i guess if you make over 600.00 a year on ebay and paypal you might have taxes issue with them.

appearantly you have to accdept to keep your account and then have to opt out afterwards?

i'll bet it's the government kinda like when they made the legal casinos have to give w-2's for winnings over 500 or 600?

The gov has been wantng this for quite awhile. Ebay is a multi-billion dollar business, and I dare to bet that more than half of their auctions are from non-businesses.

How else is the gov going to afford all the trillions in debt, and all the new programs they want to put in place, and pay the people they need to hire to run those programs (very inefficiently, as always)

edit: just read the consent form on my paypal account, and it doesn't say anything about being taxed, just that you are willing to accept the forms electronically if you do need them (in other words, because you run a business and are subject to taxes).

I wouldn't worry about it. Yet. And trust me, if they began taxing everyone that uses paypal or ebay (not just the businesses) it would make the news and everyone would know about it, because everyone would be screaming about it.

i am not really worried about being taxed. i can show a loss or break even situation. i just want my stuff on paper. i could care less about change of agreemenrt notices. that can be emailed. i want my possible tax documnets in paper.

I don't see it as a big deal, they just need your consent to send you emails, trying to go paperless. The Sate of MD is doing it to with 1099 for tax returns. If you get an income 1099 statement from Paypal it just means you need to file it as income on your taxes. Not Paypals fault, the Gov't's fault.

Well, yeah...lots of money being made by folks out of work trying to scrape a few bucks togther with the hope of paying for fuel and some food...they figure they had better get their grubby paws and that too. Havn't you heard? Bleaching a guy out of his last few sheckles is good for the economy. I had some problems with paypal way back when they first started (they "lost" some of my money out in the blue). Anyway...sorry to hear about that.
