I would leave the lettering. It looks good and is period correct. Plus it makes a very nice clean truck even that much more unique. If you take it to shows you will get even more attention from people that are not usually bump fans but are fans of nostalgic service vehicles. Too bad they too the lights off already, they look good on it.

The department wants me to take the letters off so that is why I was thinking about doing it. I will have to figure out what to do when I get it home.

I just built a new garage and I will have a nice place to park it in. As you can see I'm a little picky with my toys :D

I think my Honda dream that I'm restoring will look good in the back of the truck when I'm finished with it.

You should really clean that garage up a little. How can you work in such filth?

Nice shop. Looks like you are ready to build up and restore something. I don't think you will get much use out of that parts washer while working on the new truck though.

I just finished it. I will have it messed up in no time. I wired mulitiple outlets on all the walls for my welder so once I get all the projects that I need to finish it will be trashed. :D

Yeah, mine looked like that once, now it looks like you threw a grenade in a drum of crude oil and end wrenches.

Paid for the truck and got the title and now with all the storms hitting everywhere I don't have time to go get it
I hope to get shook loose next week end and go to PA and haul it back to North Carolina.

Since they do want the lettering gone, I'd probably just overlay the name with fordification in the same style :-)

Very nice !! i have a 72 fire truck and i used easy off oven cleaner to remove the lettering. It worked pretty well but you will still see where the letters were however i think if i buffed the truck it would take care of that also i dont think you will have any paint fasde issues to worry about since it was ost likely stored indoors all its life... I'll post pictures of mine asap... Again congrats & if you got the tank & pump you could sell or donate them to a local fire station to recoup some cash.... I got 2500 for the pump and tank with hose... Cant wait to see more pic's!

They took the tank and lights off before I bought it and said that was not in the deal. I liked the looks of the lights and was hoping they would have left them on it.
I will have to replace the rear bumper with a stock one. Does anyone need a nice custom bumper for their truck? Does anyone know what type of bumper is supposed to go on it? I have seen the standard rear bumpers and then I have seen the chrome ones that look like a front bumper.
It has been inside all its life and the paint does not look faded so I hope I can get the lettering off the doors without having to paint them. The official mileage was 7,154 miles and is very close to being perfect. I cannot wait to get it home
