Re: Gas Price Increase

Since there are 5 pages here and I only read three, the real reason that gas is so high is 2 things...

Speculators are driving the price up in the market and the fed dropped the value of the dollar for their own gain.

Years ago wehn I was on the road all of the time for work I bought a Geo Metro. Had an all aluminum 1 Liter straight 4 with a 5 speed. I could get an even 50 mpg in it IF I was by myself, had little luggage and it wasn't raining hard. lol THis was a small car but if I didn't have much in it the thing was kind of fun to drive and I am not kidding about the 50 mpgs it could get. Get a redneck in a road tractor behind you though it that smallness got to be a real problem. lol IF everbody on the road was driving one the size wouldn't have been a problem.
One other thing to be thankful for when owning an old bump is tax value. No $500 a month truck payment, no inspections, lower insurance rates BY FAR and my tax rate per year is about $25. My wife's 07 V6 Mustang's tax rate is about $350. So that puts some MORE gas in the tank

I also have to agree that talking gas prices it talking politics.

I know people that spend $50/week on beer. I spend $30/week on cigarettes. Others eat out to the tune of $40+ 3-5 times/week. Instead, I take my $2 lunch to work. I buy Rustlers instead of Wranglers. I wear Walmart tennis shoes instead of $200 shoes named for some ball player. I bought a $1200 30mpg Toyota for the DD because of my 110 miles round trip to work. When it dies, I'll buy another $1000 30mpg car for the DD. For me, my truck is my vice. I love driving it. I'm addicted to it. Not to extravagance, to just owning it, tinkering with it, driving it or just thinking about what to do with it next. It makes me feel good. So if I spend $100/wk on gas just so I can drive my truck two days a week, I consider it money well spent. After all, I could be spending it at bars or on dope. At least it's a moral vice and I never spend money on it that should be spent paying bills or taking care of the family.
Liked your post - my DD is my bicycle but I love driving my truck as much as I love working on it - most of the time:) those damn turn signals haven't allowed me to play where I want to play. Anyway, thanks for the perspective.

Just heard that gas is supposed to drop anywhere from 30-40cents in the next couple of months.

Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Ours is already down, at home, .15 in the past week. Interesting though, my wife and I work about 40 miles away from home. Gas is .20 higher there than it is here. Needed gas Friday on the way home. There, it was 3.94. Rode with the low fuel light on for the last 15 miles to get home and filled up. At the Kroger fuel island, the pump said 3.73 and when we swiped our Kroger card, got another 10 off so we paid 3.63. Usually gas is higher in the small towns and lower where the volume is higher but not here. Thank God!

I think gas went up 4 cents here in middle TN in just a few days

3.75 is the lowest and 3.79 is the high here in Portland

*edited because gas prices were wrong*

We're running $3.99 here on average. A few places are over $4.00. I consolidate trips as much as possible but my commute is a 45 mile round trip. The 300 EFI in my DD is dead on reliable but mileage maker it's not. I've been mixing junkyard gas with fresh stuff when I can get it. Every little bit helps. The 72 is spoiled. It get's premium no matter what.

Picked my wife up at work and headed home a different way for a change. Saw a sign at a convenience store. Regular: 2.75. Hollered "Look Honey, 2.75! Let's fill up!". Then realized the store was abandoned and had been for quite some time. Darn!
