I think there were a number of bumper options, but since your truck has a chrome front bumper and the nice lower body trim I would definetly get a chrome rear bumper for it. I think a painted one would look miss matched. :2cents:

Do they still have the tailgate stored away somewhere? Hopefully they do. Probably hidden in a firehouse somehwere. Would be hard to hunt down a tailgate nice enough to match the truck. I would definitely put a chrome bumper on it.

They had it boxed up for all these years. I need to remove the bumper to put the tailgate on.

Leaving this Saturday to go pick the bump up. :woohoo: Will get it back to North Carolina early next week. Had my dad go pick it up and brought it to his house. He looked in the glove box and the owners manaul and warrenty card were in there. :hd:

I will post pictures of my trip since I will be driving it back from western pa.

You are going to love it. Wow, tailgate boxed up and waiting 4 U all these years. Owners manual, warranty card. Everything is falling in place. That is great.

The funny thing is I was not even looking for it. A guy where my brother works casually said the fire department had a nice truck for sale and it went from there. He sent me pictures and it just kept getting better the more questions I asked. I have not even seen the truck yet, just had my family check it out and talked with the people from the fire department on the history and figured this is a once in a lifetime deal. Put my bid on it and they accepted it.

I plan on keeping this truck for a long time and will keep it stock. I just hope the letters come off the doors without leaving ghost shadows.

The link I had in an earlier post tells how to eliminate any ghosts:

Good luck! It's a great truck.

Man that thing is nice! I thought all SportCustoms had the belt line trim? Guess not or maybe it was ordered that way so the name of the dept. could go on the door. I would buy that for that many before spending that on a newer truck for sure. Much more truck for the dollar. You did good and will never be disappointed in it I bet.

I think the lettering looks good on there myself. Heck I had a magnetic sign on my truck back when I was woodworking and it messed up the paint a little. I sure would think there would be a difference

Hopefully by the truck being parked inside and always being kept clean the paint fade will not even be noticed. I think you got a heck of a deal on the truck and think its $10,000 well spent. Hope i get to see it on day at a car show like charlotte in the fall.
