Ford Truck Stamped Number

First off, I'm Ray. I've been restoring a 1968 F250 Camper Special. It was built in Nov. 1967 and is an earlier model than most I've owned or have seen.
My question is, On a 390 4 speed engine block plate, it has stamped numbers. This is the plate that goes between the motor and Bellhousing. Does anyone know the breakdown of these numbers? I have taken several 68 trucks apart and never was concerned about the numbers till now.
I am almost positive they aren't stamped like the "casted in" build dates. They don't make much since to me.
I've taken two trucks with less than 80k apart and both plates have numbers that don't seem correct. I could be reading them wrong.
I would guess that they are stamped with production date and shifts but not sure. The last two characters are D2, but that doesn't make since because that means either April 2 or 72.
Any help here on the stamped numbers on sheet metal parts would be great.

Ray, welcome to the site. The last two numbers are just a change revision level for the basic part. D2AE-9999-D2 becomes '72, Full size, Engine group, part #9999, change number D2. There was seldom much rhyme or reason to the revision part numbers.

stamped on the metal block plate are the number 8 19 D2. I've researched and found out that the 8 is month 19 the date and D2 means that the Stamping was Dearborn and 2nd shift. Stamped items usually don't have the year.
I also have used this numbering to verify other parts and they all seem correct for my truck. I must be the first to remove most of the parts. I noticed the staples in the valve cover gaskets where still there!

Read up on this thread, there was a big UAW strike late '67 so it's hard to tell what dates you may come up with.
