I finally had a legitimate reason to make the almost 2 hour drive to Summit Racing this morning. I've been DYING to go for years. My stepson's '85 Mustang GT's clutch cable broke and we had to have it fixed by Monday morning. PO had swapped out the OEM quadrant for aftermarket so the stock, non-adjustable cable wouldn't work. Adjustable cable was in stock at Summit Racing. Since it was her son's car, and not my truck, my wife blessed missing church this morning and making the road trip Man! It was all I'd dreamed it would be. I roamed the aisle's for an hour. Sad to notice tho' that 80% of the displays were GM, 15% Mopar and only about 5% dedicated to Ford. Still, a trip worth making. Pristine Dodge GTS and AMX on the rotating pedestals, aisle on aisle of hipo and chrome, huge American flag out front. It almost made me cry! God bless the USA!

Without a doubt God Bless America. I have always wanted to go to a Summit store. Unfortunately the speed shops on Long Island are not even close to what they were once were. Two weeks ago I went to the two speed shops for checking springs and Prussian Blue to set up a new rocker arm assembly on my Impala. Not only did they not have it but they had no clue what I was talking about. It is a shame since back in the day they had everything and the counter men were hard core motor heads

Yeah, I called yesterday to make sure they had one in stock before I went. The salesman cracked me up. I was telling him that it may be Sunday before I could make it because I lived 2 hours away. He said "Man, that's a long trip". I told him "I don't mind the drive, I've always wanted to come check it out." I could hear the excitement in his voice. He said "Yeah man! This place is so cool! I LOVE working here!" I told him I bet you get an employee discount too, don't you? He said with a giggle in his voice "Yeah man! 20%! Can you believe it! This job is so cool! You're gonna love it!" I cracked up and told him I'd be there today. I lived overseas most of my childhood. Daddy was in the oil field, offshore drilling. He was a crane operator. When the rig moved we moved. We went overseas, to Alexandria, Egypt when I was in 3rd grade. Moved about every year or two. Egypt, Canary Islands, Malta, Iran, and back and forth between Texas and Louisiana when he drilled in the Gulf. Left the States in '68 and came back in to stay in '76. I graduated high school in Louisiana in '77. Then a couple of trips to Japan, work related, in the early '90's. I hear people talk about wanting to see the world. I've seen it, I don't care for it. There IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME! Muscle cars, horsepower, classic rock, cheeseburgers, fries and shakes, hot girls in tiny bikinis, freedom of speech and religion, voting your elected officials, sports, Mom, apple pie and Old Glory! These things are what make this country great! I'm proud to be an American, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave!

My wife makes me wear a bib when I go there, and get this, if she goes by, she will usually get me a new T-shirt ( with a FORD of some kind on it). Its about 3 hrs for us but all interstate. Just a note< they do have some gearheads working there.
Summit Racing rocks. The closest warehouse to me is Reno, but even if they ship something to me from Ohio, it's here in two days. I shoot them a complimentary email every now and then to let them know what an awesome job they're doing. I'm afraid to add up all of my Summit Racing invoices.
summit is by far the best place to get parts. I get the majority of stuff I order from them the next day

Summit is the best. I have a set of Summit long tube headers and the gaskets that came with them wont quite seal. They are ending me a new set of gaskets free of charge.

Give yourself at least 2 hours just to browse and leave your wallet at home! If I'd had about $2000 to blow I would have had to call for transport. As it was, I bought a $30 mechanic's stool. Couldn't leave without buying SOMETHING for myself. They had rotating display pedestals on either side of the doors. One held a '69 AMX done in red, white and blue and the other was a hemi orange Dodge GTS vert. Both of them in pristine condition. I stood beside each of them for at least 10 revolutions. Worth the trip just to window shop.
