Stuff from Unc

Post by Mancar1 »

I spent some time helping a Uncle move and he gave me this receiver, it is a oldy but a goody. I think I will hook it up in my shop. Got 6 speakers around the outside area and 4 inside the shop. I can use the A system for the outside ones and the B system inside. (Like I used to, but I put that system in the house for my Sweety, Vicki.) He also gave me a 8' camper shell for the bump. I don't really want it, but he is so proud of it that I will bring it home Thurs. I sure do not want to hurt his feelings. He is a great guy.

What make is the reciever? Looks like an expensive one, even if it's from the '70's.

The reciever is from Modular Component Systems. This was a mid-high end electronics brand from JC Penny. MCS was really quality stuff. I have a pair of MCS floor speakers that I still use in my surround sound system, and they are great.

You are right indytexan929. It is a MCS model 3275, and it is a dandy. Thank you.
Thanks for the comment Jamie. My uncle said he bought it from Pennys over 30 years ago. Back when I was getting into my 30s

Wow! That brings back memories. One of those in the house and a Pioneer KP500 in the GTO.

cool. i like vintage stereo stuff. technics, pioneer, panasonic, marantz, etc. that was the stuff we grew up with when i was a kid. 140 watts per channel and speakers that would handle it and sound good. when my parents were at home i wasn't allowed to turn mine up over "2". lol.

How about Craig? Another memorable brand. And Cerwin Vega speakers.

I am using a Pioneer TX 9500 in the shop now. Not sure how old it is but it is heavy and will push some big speakers well.

I own one that is nearly identical. Bought it in 1978 from JC Penney--this looks like it's from the year before--I shopped a long time before I bought it. Modular Component Systems--I think at the time it was built for JCP by Pioneer, but could be wrong on that.... You should be able to run A+B at the same time as well. I still use mine, now relegated to 'Drive In Movie Night' in the back yard, with the monster MCS speakers I bought at the same time--12" woofers, 6" midrange, 3" tweeters. All of that is plugged into an old Xbox, and the video runs through an LCD projector on the back wall of the garage. The screen is a 12x16' white paint tarp....

"Boston" 'Don't Look Back' still sounds as good through it now as it did back then....
too many Fords, no where near 'nuff time.

or, money.

Thats a sick receiver. I've got an old Hitachi SR-903 hooked up to some old Kenwoods. It pumps. Hard.

I have the MCS 3275 hooked up in my shop, thanks to a good Uncle. The B system has 6 outdoor speakers, 2 on patio area 2 by spa, and 2 by pool. Inside my shop the A system is hooked to some big old Kenwoods we bought back in the stone age. Yes tsherry the A and B can be used at the same time, it is the same as our Kenwood.
I had one of the old Kenwood receivers that we got when we bought the Kenwood speakers in the shop, but I put it in the house for Vicki. The new system we had bought for her wasn't near as good as these heavy as heck old ones.
Thanks to all for your input, I also love the older components. 8)
