Request for any info from Joplin

Post by TNIceWolf »

Guys I need some help. Miss Yvonnes mother...two children and two grandchildren were in Joplin when the tornado hit. What info we are getting is thin and sketchy at best. We know the tornado was a dead hit on their homes just from what we see on the news. I am trying furiously to put together a rescue mission and need any additional info or help anyone can offer. I am grasping at any straw I can here.

People are having a tough time getting around and getting information in and out of Joplin. Cell towers are off line, and land lines are damaged. Guy I work with here in Cassville is over there looking for his son now. The footage looks pretty devastating. People are getting turned around in their own town because all of the landmarks are gone. I can't imagine being there, I live 45 miles from there and I'm still shell-shocked from seeing the damage. God bless those folks and their families.

Prayers said for Ms Yvonnes family there.

I know firsthand after our tornadoes here, it might take awhile to get a firm word from anyone.
Once the towers went down here / then folks phone batteries crashed / a kind of domino effect.
But I'm sure ya'll will get word, keep the faith!

From expierence of many years of hurricanes...
If you go:
1) Make sure you take what you need to sustain yourself (fuel/generator/food/water/batteries/tent/rain gear/etc)
2) Make sure you take ID for everyone as martial law usually goes into effect with the National Guard stopping everyone (this keeps the wolves at bay-shame we can't just shoot the thieves like in the old days).
3) Be ready for an awakening expierence as to what is possible, (I saw my Uncles mobile home frame completely wrapped around a 75 year old tree as well as many other things that just aren't right)...
4) Get a tetanus shot before you go, you will get cut!
5) Be safe.

Jeff

Thanks for the advice. As a combat vet I am all too well aware of what I might encounter there and I dont look forward to the prospect. Still.......people and not just my own need help. On a good note.....or as good a note as possible we have gained some info in a slow and laborious fashion. The daughter and the granddaughters survived. The daughter couldnt find the key to the basement in her house and made a run to the neighbors. Her house is now non existant and they only have the clothes on their back. No identification and no means to access even money for food. An odd blessing but still. The mother in law we have located in a hospital in Carthage. She was in a hospice care directly behind ST Johns. Some brave souls managed to rescue her and were kind enough to allow her to make a call to the son before the cell phones went dead due to lack of power. After she had been thrown through her apartment and two doors into the hall. All we can do is hope there. The son is now our biggest concern. He bravely used the last of his cell phone power to inform us his grandmother was alive. We have heard nothing from him since and have absolutely no idea of his location or condition. All we know is that everyone lost everything and he is the only one we cant locate from a distance.

So far no non emergency personell are allowed north of 32nd st, or south of 7th street, most people are camping out at mssu's Legget and platt Athletic center. Currently everything south of newman rd 1/4 mile north of 7th st, is off the power grid. Haven't been as far south as 32nd so i can only imagine the same condition there.

best i ccan do is point you to the red cross, and koamtv.com, fox14tv.com

Ther red cross also is directing those in their shelter at mssu to sign up with live and well or alive and well wich has a .org but not sure on it's exact webb address. i can try to glean the info you need. if you do come down to tr and fetch them stop by for coffee.

ok aliveandwell.org said they was registering people alive but displaced by the storm but the site they mentioned is about aids and has no link to tornado info? ????

ok further update by going to redcross.org is it is safe and well not alive and well. but then it was chaotic this morning, they had volunteers going to legget and platt wich was only for donations and getting shelter, and shelter seekers and donators going to the billingsly student center.

so.
