wiring 67 f250

Just installed new 460 went for fresh start and it wont turn over. When I hook up my cheater wires so I can start from out side under the hood the wires heat up really fast and hot. I have checked all my wireing it seems to be rite. But I am not sure about the coil seeing as the previous owner has changed the wireing
colors. Any suggestions???

You'll have to unhook stuff and check the voltages. Which wires are heating up?

since it is a 460. it probably has a duraspark dist. in it. so you would want the coil that came with the enigne. and then you remove or cut the resistor wire coming from the ignition switch to the coil. and replace it with a regular non resistor wire. that will give the duraspark coil a full 12 volts. the 67 coil wire is pinkish or red. no stripes.

Sorry was gone for a few days. I have a pair of mechanic starter wires, they are basicly red and black wires and clamps with a spring loaded switch on the other end when you hook them up to the starter relay you jump it with them so you dont have to get in and out to start your truck. These are the wires that get really hot, not any of the the truck wires. I should explain I put a 73 429 with a 78 460 crank in place of the original 390. I wanted more power for my camper (10 1/2 ft 1700 lbs dry weight).
When I hit the key switch I get no start at all, when I jump the switch I hear the starter pulse like a slite clunk then the cheaters heat up. I need to check the wiring on the coil with your diagram I think the diagram I found online have put the green wire on the pos side. I'll check those tomorrow after work. The coil was new from my 76 that had a 360. I have placed all the wires back to the original hook ups but had to rewire the alternator and couldn't rember the color code or placement on the coil. Any more Ideas will be great. Thanks

does the engine turn over by hand? if the starter only clunks that could be the problem. or it could be a bad starter. you had me thinking it would turn over but just not start.

When you're hooking up your starter wires, how are you hooking it up to the solenoid. If you're hooking it to both of the large posts, that is not correct and is requiring the full starting current to pass through your switch. You should be hooking it up to the left two posts on the solenoid. One post goes to the battery, and the other post triggers the solenoid.

ooooo you had me scared my new motor wouldn't turn any more I took time from it because of the snow. I can still turn it by hand. The pos is on the post closest to the bat the other post runs to the starter, the ground cable to frame. Sorry I took all this apart 4 years ago, had a hard time scraping up money to finish my truck. I have followed the diagrams with the wireing color codes, well the ones the previouse owner didnt butcher or splice into.
