BUSY WEEKEND WITH THE THREE TRUCKS!

Post by lrjetmech »

Had a long weekend-at work 14 hours on Saturday, 6 hours on Sunday. Thanks to ScreaminZ and his father for coming by Sunday afternoon and getting the '71 cab, frame, and bed. I pulled the original 2-BBL cast-iron intake with Autolite 2100 carb and the original dizzy off of the '69 shortbed last weekend. Around 4 p.m. or so on Sunday, started pulling the 390 Performer intake, 1405 Edelbrock carb, and Pertronix ignition off of the '69 longbed engine to swap onto the '69 shortbed, and put the older set-up on the longbed. Worked ALL NIGHT, but I cranked her up the first time around 7:30 a.m. Monday morning. One of my technicians who works for me on my crew at work has been wanting the longbed, so I got her together first so she could go to a new home. Kinda have visitation rights, though, because I will still get to see her when he drives her to work, and I write his evalulation every year, so I told him he has to take good care of her. Besides, he wants to continue what I had started with her. Was kinda sad to see her go, as she was the first truck I became a member of this forum with going on 5 years ago, but she will continue to be loved. Some pics from the weekend:

That was a lot to accomplish in a short time. Good work.

Again, a big THANKS! and a  to ScreaminZ and his father for getting the disassembled '71-they will be putting all of it to good use, and sharing with at least one other member on the forum, so I am so happy for that. I will try to get my buddy signed up on here at work tomorrow-will be cool to have someone I work with addicted to it as much as I am! :D

Last but not least, :fr:

P.S. You cannot believe (maybe you can, LOL) how happy my wife is that I am down to "one nice truck" (her words). Some people just don't understand.

Thanks-a labor of love, though...amazingly, after you've done this kinda work a couple of times, it doesn't seem that bad, and I like the challenge, and the satisfaction I get when it's done. Looking forward to getting the 4-BBL Eddy intake, carb, and Pertronix ignition installed on the shortbed. The Edelbrock intake and carb weigh a TON less, so it will be a lot easier installing it. I know it made a WORLD of difference on the other truck when I put it on there, so I can't wait to wake up the new one!!! 8)

P.S. To anyone considering it, or needing to do it, you CAN get the cast iron intake and carb off and back on WITHOUT a cherry picker or a friend, but it is a mother! For the record, I am 5' 8", 170, so I'm no Hulk Hogan. Just take your time, get it out a little at a time, clean everything well, and get it back in and close to it's position, then make one final move to get it in place, so you don't disturb the gaskets. IT CAN BE DONE! :hd:

So glad I'm putting the Edelbrock intake and carb on the next time, though...

Sure it CAN be done. But SHOULD be done is another can of worms entirely. I've got a couple inches of height over you, but the same weight. I've found that standing NEXT to the engine is the best way to get that mother of a stock intake out of the engine compartment. (leverage being what it is and all)

Uh huh... So how long until you get another one to take up the extra space now acquired...
