'53 Crown Vic in Pick-A-Part yard....

Post by Lebowski »

I don't know where else to post this so I'm posting it here. If someone belongs to a Ford car site and wants to post this there that would be fine with me.

Anyway, there's a '53 Crown Vic 2 door hardtop in the antiques section of the Louisville KY Pick-A-Part yard on Recovery Road which is off Grade Lane. The body is rough but the windshield and back glass are in great shape with no cracks. I tried to remove one of the wheels to use for a spare tire on my '61 Merc ragtop but either the lug nuts were rusted on or I'm not as strong as I used to be. It has a mostly complete big block up front and I think the rear axle is all there too. That's about it as far as decent parts from what I could tell. The windshield and back glass are the best parts on the car by far so hopefully someone will remove them before it gets crushed....

Ford only made the Crown Victoria for two years: 1955 and 1956. If it is truly a Crown Victoria, there are a some parts on there that were specific to that model - mainly the stainless "crown" that went over the top. Try to save it.

If it has a big block, that's not original. The "Thunderbird" Y-block 292 and 312 engines came in that car. (1955 & 1956 CV)

Sorry Guys, but the 1953 Ford either came with an I-6 or a "Flathead V-8!" No big options were available other than the Flathead.

It was 1954 when Ford came out with an Overhead V-8. That was a 272 ci "Y" Block V-8. In 1955, 1956, and 1957, engines were either the 292 ci or the 312 ci "Y" Block V-8's or the little I-6 that had been there almost forever.

In 1958, the "Big Block" was a 332 ci "Interceptor" and everybody was raving about it. Unfortunately, the Chevy V-8's ate this one's lunch.......(What did I say? - - - My God, I'd better watch my mouth!!!)
