lost transmission

Post by fordman »

the transmission blew a cooling hose in my wifes car and ate the transmission. it still moves. but it revs up while driving. so the clutch packs are shot. i have a car i bought last winter. that needs brakes. and a rear door window. i guess we will have to tag that and fix the brakes. i guess it was preordained that i couldn't sell that car. because we need it now. well what else is next?

Been in the same boat lately. Everything I touch turns to dust in my hands it seems so I can relate. I hope you get things worked out. Do you have a pull a part in your area? Around here a v8 engine can be bought for around $100 but I don't know what a tranny would cost. Shouldn't be more I would think. Be a lot of work on a front wheel drive car though. I assume it is a front wheel drive. Good luck anyway

here is something funny. we got reverse back . so we can now go in reverse. but it still slips in forward. there arte yards up in the city. but none of them are advertizing on the locator services that they have this transmission. i just got an email from joplin abou tpossibly having a transmission down there. but it may not even work in my car.

If I remember right there is a salvage yard set up that will search for the part you need and arrange to have it shipped to you. I cannot remember the name but call one of the bigger yards near you and ask them. Not a pull a part but a regular old style yard.
I remember when I had a 95 F150 supercab without a back seat a yard near me actually found the seat I wanted in Florida and had it shipped to Charlotte for me. The cost was not much either at the time. Been a few years though
Good luck

you can do online searches with several web sites. my parts shop is a hollander interchange search site and car-part.com then there is parts voice. i am sure many of the yards that are found on those sites will ship. cost is a major thing i have to watch out for.
