My condolences to the family, he was taken way too early. The pictures of the accident tell a lot! It looks to have been sudden and quick though by the way the cab is completely folded over. Its a terrible tragedy but at least it looks like there was no time to hurt or suffer. Words just arent enough...

What was in front of him that didn't move and two, was the service truck texting or talking on his cell phone when he rear ended him?

Jamie
Sounds like a Semi was in front and the large service truck in back that did not stop!!

Jamie that service truck is set up for heavy equipment. Mining, well drilling, road construction or some related field. We see these all the time at the dealer. Most of them are horribly overloaded. The driver may well have seen Gene's pickup but couldn't get stopped. :( Using a phone or radio would have made things worse.

Jennifer,

So sorry for your loss, (as a chill runs through me-and a tear leaves my eye). My condolences also to you and your family in this terrible time. I do remember Gene hadn't been here a long time-but in that time had been very polite and had helped many members here with his knowledge of our trucks.

R.I.P. our Fordification Brother Gene, you are in a much more peaceful place than we are.
Also praying some proper investigation comes from the State of California and the DOT to make sure this kind of accident is at least reduced in the near future?

That took place in Texas, just south of Ft. Worth.

What is laying on the cab of his truck? Did something fall off the truck ahead or behind him?

My gosh what a terrible tragedy.

I had the honor of meeting him back in December when I bought a 390 block off of him to convert the motor in my 70. He was a super nice guy. We talked about other stuff like kids and family. He mentioned his little boy and how much he enjoyed having him. He also was unusually gracious about my wife and I when we where expecting at that time. Later, on a few occasions, he had PM'd me and asked about my project as well as my family. A fantastic spirit I wish I could have known better.

No words can convey my sorrow for him and his family. Godspeed ScreaminZ/Gene. RIP brother.

The object on top of the cab looks like an aluminium toolbox. You can see the force of the impact was so great that it pushed the bed up and over on top of the cab while smashing the can down at the same time. The front wheels of the large truck that hit him as located underneath the bed, just behind the cab. There was some frame and motor forward of those wheels, so you know the big truck hit very hard and took up virtually all of his pickup bed.
