I finally got someone willing to hire me. I am heading to Dallas for orientation with Schneider for a dedicated account hauling frac sand for Schlumberger. They said I'll be working 5-6 days a week and home every day. That schedule is a lot better than some trucking jobs. And it starts at $925.00 per week. I am pretty happy with the schedule and pay. Also, after I start driving again and after a few months or a year if I keep my record clean I should be able to get any job I want. I haven't driven a truck in 2.5 years and my record has a few blemishes. Most of my tickets and accidents are about 3 years old so that's good.
So orientation is going to be six days! I think I will be going through the regular 4 days that all new Schneider hires go to and then another two related to the sand hauling job.
We also have some property in the oilfield in karnes county so it's possible that If they drill I could be hauling the sand for fracking (hydraulic fracturing) a well on my own property.
They are drilling all over south texas in the Eagle Ford Shale. It goes from East of San Antonio then southwest all the way to Mexico. There are tons of jobs. It has already completely changed many very poor towns and counties.
Hope you like driving for The Great Pumpkin! Glad to hear you got a job. The trucking industry is rebounding. Not exploding, but rebounding. Maybe after the kids are grown, I'll get back into it.

Thanks! I am actually getting more excited than nervous to be going back to work. I am really going to start appreciating my leisure time if I ever have any. Well I did accomplish a lot during my time off actually. I met a wonderful woman and convinced her to marry me. Imagine that, no job and she still married me. We are even expecting a new baby girl in September!

Cool .. Dicks is a cool place. everybody that works there is made to be a Dick while they are at work. You ask for any thing and they are dicks bout it. they throw stuff at you its a cool place. You wear a tie they cut it off as soon as you walk in the door. Its a fun time..

I did it! I just got home from orientation in Dallas, Tx. I am officially employed by SNI now. I don't have to report for work until Tuesday at the soonest they said.
Wow I was up at 5:30 a.m. just like Mon, Tues, and Wed. After lunch we waited around until finally we were told we are getting a rental car to drive back to San Antonio. Anyways, I ended up being responsible for the car and I drove 3 guys back to san antonio and dropped them off at their homes. I didn't get home until 10:00 p.m. The rental is a 2011 4 door Chevrolet Silverado. It's a nice truck but just not the same as my '67.
Good deal man Congratulations on the new job and new future family. The oil and gas industry creates LOTS of (well paying) jobs and has a tremendous impact on the local economy. It's made me a good living for the last 25+ years.

I started my new job last wednesday. That day ended up being 20 hours but mostly I was just standing around and watching how to unload the cement trucks. I drove out to one of the oil rigs with a load of cement. I only spent about 3 hours driving that day. On Friday I drove back from one of the rigs about an hour. We moved some cement and some silos from one rig site to another. That day was only about 13 hours. Monday there was no load for me to train on so my dispatcher had me move a freightliner otr tractor from san antonio to Dallas. I drove a rental car home. Today I reported to work at 2:45 p.m. and waited 2-3 hours but there was nothing to do so I got sent home. Anyway, I am enjoying it and it should get more steady (busy) soon once were done training. We'll be moving equipment from site to site. Lots of drilling going on here in south Texas.
Here are some video clips I made while at work last night. We started at 2 p.m. and rode to a well site in Cuero, Tx. We left Cuero around 5p.m. after waiting for maintenance to fix the turn signals on one of our trucks. We took five of what I think are pump trucks used for Hydraulic Fracturing to another well site near Encinal, Tx. It took us six hours to drive 210 miles. The last hour or so was on a bumpy sandy road going about 15 mph. Then our chase car driver took us back to Leming which was about two more hours. Anyway, we were done about 2 a.m.
