Looks like it's made by Volvo in Sweden. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_clutch_transmission

Did a little more googling:
http://www.egmcartech.com/2010/03/29/fo ... nsmission/
Sounds like a joint venture between Ford and Getrag?
Now, wheres the 1.6l ecoboost with 190HP?

The 1.6L is only supposed to get 119HP. I don't think a motor displacing almost a whole cylinder less then the four banger in my focus is going to get more horsepower without a turbo.DuckRyder wrote:Now, wheres the 1.6l ecoboost with 190HP?
I got ahead of myself there. The naturally aspirated 1.6L puts out 119HP. The EcoBoost 1.6L puts out 180HP, 160HP, or 150HP depending on which version you have. According to wikipedia they have been available in Europe since the 2010 model line of Ford Focus, C-Max, and Volvo S60. These motors having turbo chargers.

EcoBoost IS turbo. There are supposedly 2 versions one is 150HP and the other is 185ishHP. The 2.0l ecoboost for the Focus ST is around 240HP.mrollings53 wrote:The 1.6L is only supposed to get 119HP. From Ford.deDer neue Ford Focus (Limousine 4-türig - Titanium - 1,6 l EcoBoost, 134 kW (182 PS) - 6-Gang-Schaltgetriebe mit Start-Stopp-System)
I'm going to go drive a new Focus Monday, but they are being panned almost universally for being underpowered. with the 160HP 2.0. Seems the ecoboost at 180HP would make it more competitive in the segment (everything else that isn't diesel we are going to look at is 170HP+).
I'll also be interested to see if the Powershift is as good as Volkswagens DSG.

Re: OT - Where is the dual clutch "automatic" in the 2012 Focus
Well, I really wanted to like the Focus and it is a nice car but the drivetrain was a disappointment.
It is woefully underpowered and the transmission was not very smooth. This particular one at least was nowhere near as good as a VW DSG. In a short about 6 mile freeway/back-road loop we caught it off guard a couple of times.
Honda and VW are the current front runners for Em's new car.

It's sad that in this day and age, cars are still built underpowered and not very well. I'm sure the sync systems was nice and all the bells and whistles but I want a car that can move out...

My 5 speed Focus has plenty of power, plus I average 35mpg's between city and highway.

Buy the manual if your looking to get the most out of the drivetrain. I have a 2008 Focus with the 140HP motor and 5-speed. I don't ever feel that it is underpowered. The 2012 Focus has 20 more horses under the hood too boot. Plus you'll end up saving a grand on the car. I don't know if Em is your wife or daughter, but if your buying a first car for a child the manual versions are probably a better option. They cost less and have all the basic things you would want in a first car. And they get to learn to drive a stick like every driver should know how to do. If your buying for your wife, I would go with something bigger like the Fusion or equivalent from the other manufacturers.

You can't even get a manual in the 2012. Also Emily (daughter) isn't very proficent with a stick.
The Fusion was nice (we drove that as well).
The Jetta was the nicest followed closely by the Accord and the VW was also the least expensive by a pretty strong margin.

That is true I suppose, it is not available on the Titanium (which is the only one that was under any sort of consideration).
Doesn't really matter, the Fords are off the short list.
Oh, and it is far from her first car, she knows what she wants and she is a very intelligent and savvy shopper.
You guys want to like the Fords as much as I do, the truth is the competition is still better (although the Fords are leaps and bounds ahead of where they have been in the past)
