Convertible Bump Fuel Truck

Post by TexasTruck72 »

I first saw this truck one year ago, but didn't have my camera with me. It is a 68/69 F-350 and it serves as the fuel truck at the airport in Gainesville, Georgia. I have seen it before at air shows, etc fueling up small airplanes. It really caught my eye because first off, it's a bumpside :D , and secondly it has no roof or winshield :? . I wondered if someone made this truck that way or if Ford produced work trucks like this?

Well I got to look at it up close this weekend and noticed how the dash appears to be made out of Ford materials and not homemade. The gauges remind me of the ones used on other large Ford trucks of the 1960s. The dash and hood have clean edges and there are no mounts for doors. The steering column, pedals, floor shifter, and front panels are the same as on our trucks. The muffler and exhaust are mounted under the front bumper for safety reasons(fuel vapors, etc). I wish I could've seen under the hood, but I am not that nosy.

It would be neat to own on of these. There's so much you could do with a truck like this. You could keep it a fuel truck, you could remove the tank and put a flatbed on it, you could remove the tank and put a long bed on it(although you might have to "stretch" it), and so many more possibilites.

thats a cool cowl and chasis model. the dash around the column reminds me of a p series ford panel van. check out the diamond plate floor when they added the tanker part to the truck. even the cowl is different. it has a opening and closing cowl on it.

Dash panel reminds me of the Ford buses that I rode to school in the 70s and 80s.

I was just in one of those buses to see the gauges and that gauge cluster is the same for sure. it looks to me the whole thing was slated to be a bus. take off the bus body with it's flat windshield and there you have it. I'd lay odds it's Fomoco and not some custom job.

I was hoping to find a matching tach to replace the air gauge on a f600 panel. the gauges do match perfectly , still didn't find a tach tho.

As mentioned above, Ford trucks were sold as cowl and chassis only to body builders for various applications.
