usually on the front passenger side frame rail in front of the engine crossmember. you need to clean it off good and then push the inner fender out of the way to see ift the best. edited sides.

It's on the passenger side.

Hey! I didn't know about that one under the cab! I have the cab off my '68 right now.....I'll go take a look. (MY door VIN matches the one on the front frame rail...so I expect the other one to match as well.)

Does anyone "protect" these frame rail VIN's when doing a restoration? If so, what is recommended? POR or an Eastwood product, etc., would cover them over, I would think.

Cheers!

the vin would only be in one place on the frame. i have never seen it under the cab. i put spray paint ove rmy vin when i had the front clip off. it didnt help to protect it much. it was just silver spray paint. i would paint over the vin just as you were goign to do with the rest of the frame. most guys are putting por 15 on the frame.

Yeah, I guess it isn't going anywhere, anyway! If someone down the road wants to see it, THEY can scrape the paint (POR) off! :)

Thanks, Fordman!

Sounds like just a stamping mistake. Rare, but I've heard of a fair amount on Mustangs and seen a few on our trucks. Frame number will probably show correctly.
