Re: f100 - current bid $16000
Ok, I got some patience and scrolled through all the pics and see what some of you guys are saying...That cross member supporting the bed wood looks, well, awful...On my old '54 they just unbolted so you could clean them up easily
....It's got a Ranger grill---was there such an animal in the stepside version?...With all the work done, I would have put discs on the front....

This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

Nice truck - hope he gets 30K$ for it. Don't get so caught up on the BS he wrote or flaws you can find. Build a nicer truck and see how much it costs you.

Re: f100 - current bid $16000
The '69 brochure states only style side and chassis cab got the Ranger package. This one still has it's base model two-gauge cluster with no extra trim on doors or dash. Real tribute to the design team on these trucks that they look great with or without the gingerbread. The restorer fortunately didn't overdo the exterior chrome and even more fortunately, didn't throw the coon-eyes on it
Had a chance to speak with the owner. Seems sincere and well-meaning; the paperwork that came with the truck when he bought it had the price info in it that he, for better or worse, decided to incorporate in his own listing.

i dont like the 69 black doors. to me that would have lowered the value of the truck. but some guys like that look.

Re: f100 - current bid $16000
Ditto...most people don't realize what kind of money it takes to have someone ELSE do a complete resto like this. Did he still pay too much? Perhaps a little much as there are obviously a few flaws but c'mon guys. Think of your average person...they probably think we bump owners are insane for spending even $500 on some "dumb old truck"! I dig the truck...a lot. Would I pay 80k or at this point 23k for the same thing? Hell no! But I still dig it.Joe Kriston wrote:Wow, tough crowd...I wonder if the responses would have been different if the owner just joined up here and said "Hi, guys, I'm olebluestepside---how do you like my truck?"...
The guy who's selling it or a previous owner probably took a pile of sheet metal and rusted bolts to a professional restoration shop and said "here, put this truck in show quality condition...$80,000 wouldn't be that far-fetched---the resto shop is probably going to charge at least $80-$100 per hour for everything they do plus markup on parts and everything they sub out...I've seen ads for resto shops in magazines who qualify their potential customers by saying "if you can't afford at least $50,000 on your restoration, then we can't do a good job, blah blah...
Obviously, most of us here are more do it yourselfers who wouldn't dream of spending that kind of money on our truck...If you average out the amount of hours you spend tinkering with your truck and multiply it by whatever it is you make per hour on your day job, I' think we'd all realize we got alot more invested in our trucks than we realize...Not trying to be critical of folks here, but geez, be happy that somebody put the same effort into a bumpside that would normally be reserved for a Shelby or Mach one...
For Alexexc and the gentleman with the beautiful red fire truck, regardless of what they're worth, I'd take your's any day of the week over a restored beauty such as this stepside...Your trucks are living history...This truck is modern art and craftsmanship...I'm more of a history buff...

Re: f100 - current bid $16000
I agree with all of what you're saying. My only point was that the guy didn't do it himself...he hired it done. That costs money...big money. I've got roughly $3500 into my bump now and that includes the purchase price. I've got over 25k in my '56 now and it's not painted, no interior, and isn't even in one piece yet! If I tallied all of the hours I've spent on my '56, it would probably blow my own mind if I could pay myself what these shops would charge. Keep in mind, there's no labor charge when you're doin' it yourself. It's all about who's building it, how much they have to spend, and certainly WHAT they wish to build. I do believe that the guy spent too much but hey, I'm sure he watched the progress and knew what he was getting himself into. Will he see a return on his, ahem, investment??? Not in this lifetime. I've found that most of these people that have the big $$$ for these projects typically either don't know which way to turn a ratchet or they have enough money to not want to. They may love the cars/trucks but they don't want to get dirty. I would guess that 15 to 20k was spent on the bodywork and paint. I'm not sure how the rest is spread out but it's not like it's heavily modified with an IFS, IRS, custom interior, air suspension, high-tech electronics, etc. So, you got me.williamwilliam wrote:Yeah. There is no way its an $80k restore job on that truck. You can easily redo one of these model trucks for less than $35k. I have a friend who is trying to sell his 68 ranger right now for $23k and can't get any bites on it. It has only 14,000 original miles on it, and even has the original seat Upholstery that looks brand new. Any car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I just don't see anything that special about that truck. Its pretty clean looking I guess......but not worth that kind of money. When I get done with my truck next month, I will have around $16k in it. Mine will look just as good as that one, and $16k is a long way from $80k! I've restored 5 of these year model trucks and I just can't see how he could have that much in that truck. My question is.....why put that kind of money in something that not worth nearly that much?

BTW...is your friend's '68 a truck that we've seen here on this site? A 14,000 mile truck sounds familiar. Oh, and maybe I've seen it already, do you have a project thread on your truck? I'll go try and find it anyway. Good luck with your build and be sure that you will love your truck more than this guy loves his!

@F100builder:
You are too generous. I live in the sunny sh!thole known as Southern California. I have NEVER seen a vehicle sold by an honest person other than me or my dad. When I look at that truck I see exactly what 9 out of 10 old vehicles around here are: A $300 PoS that some scumbag bought and threw an Earl Scheib paintjob on and is looking to rip off some sucker for thousands.
I personally wish for all of those shysters to contract herpes and die. I have yet to meet even one (ONE!) person selling a used car that wasn't an out and out liar that didn't deserve to have his teeth shoved into his skull. Well, ok... I did buy one ' 84 Mustang that was honestly represented, but that is one out of probably eight cars.
This guy selling the truck on eBay... yeah, he might be the sucker that got ripped off and is trying to pass the savings onto you, but more likely he is the one who bought it, put about $5000 into it's "restoration," and is lying all the way to the bank. I have been lied to and taken advantage of enough times to believe the worst in those kinds of people, thank God I never bought anything THAT expensive!
-----> EDIT <-----
Personally, anyone willing (and able) to drop $80 grand into a resto is smart (educated) enough to either know wtf he is doing, or have someone more knowledgeable break it down to him. No one throws down almost a hundred grand on shoddy BS like this truck. My experience tells me that this is a scam. I feel sorry for the buyer, if indeed he is real and not a plant by the seller. I hope that the seller's nuts blacken and fall off due to shame at this deception, and that this truck catches on fire and explodes with him in it.

Re: f100 - current bid $16000
Golly, Ranger72, who farted under your sheets this morning?...The seller put up enough closeup pics to hardly call the whole thing a scam and warranting his nuts turning black or whatever it is you said...Those truck beds, for instance, are single walled...Meaning if you have dings on one side, you're going to have bumps on the other side...You can't just fill them in with bondo...How many hours do you think it would take to straighten out all the bed dings on a 44 year old truck?...Of course, I suppose one could just get flat green tractor paint and weenie roller it on and it would look just as good...
I have no doubt that the truck was completely disassembled and re-put back together...All of that takes time....By the way, a total of five different "plants" have bid over $18,500.00 on the truck...
I think one of the problems is that the truck looks like it has been driven a good amount since restoration---maybe even on some bad roads...When I looked again at the crossmember supporting the bedwood, I could see that whatever is gunked up on the crossmember, is also gunking up the bottom of the wood and one of the fender washers, meaning it accumalated there after reassembly...The undercarriage may be as much about a bad cleaning job as a bad restoration...
Anyway, I have no dog or pony in this show...I doubt whatever the truck sells for is going to affect my fondness for these trucks one way or another, or my not so lavish lifestyle...But do realize that there is alot of overhead in completing a truck or car restoration---hours spent searching for parts, specialty shops, not to mention the overhead of having a facility to perform the work...That's how restorer's make their $$$$---like a general contractor who builds a house...Would I hire one?..Doubt it...It would take the fun out of it...

I'm sure it was pretty expensive to get that two-tone steering wheel...

Gosh, maybe I am wrong, maybe that's what an $80,000 resto-mod looks like; because it sure isn't stock. Think about it for a moment, this guy is claiming that "someone" spent the kind of coin reserved for restoring rare '60s Vettes on a nothing special pick-up truck. That really redlines my BS meter!

It's up to $24,600 (reserve not met). If this ends up selling for thirty g's I'm gonna strip my truck apart tomorrow and start painting things.
Since my truck is twice as big I should be able to get $60,000 out of her....

I think resto-mod is an apt description of that, Ranger72....Ranger Grill, two-tone steering wheel, white dashboard cover
,---it may not be hot rodded like a lot of resto-mods, but it is modified...I think we all have our bs meters that redline when sellers put certain things in their ads...

Re: f100 - current bid $16000
I dunno... $25K seems pretty steep to me. At that price you could buy your own pick-up with any body style you like and refurbish it pretty nicely. But who knows, maybe the buyer really likes this style. It is a pretty stepside.It's up to $24,600 (reserve not met).
What really surprises me is that the reserve is so high. Did someone discover that old bumps were made of gold and forget to CC me on that memo?
