1970 Camper special

Post by 67 ford f100s rule »

So this truck is a 1970 Camper special with 390 FE auto its got the bedside box. I am thinking about buying it but I am not sure if It is worth it so I am trying to get some advice on it. The body has the normal rust but its pretty advanced. It has some p.o. mods which are ugly. it has 55 thousand orig. miles(documented). It runs pretty good. It has a brake issue. So what is it worth? The seller wants 1500 and its at a local lot here in town.

to me it would depend on the mods and how much rust it has and if its a easy rust fix or if the whole bottom of the cab is weak along with the cab mounts. things i hate to see on a truck are hoels cut for speaker in the doors and kick panels. that turns me off and makes me think the truck had a kid driving it for a while. speaker wires all over the places. you know what i mean. wires hangin down from under the dash that go to nothing.

It appears to be either a Ranger or Ranger XLT. If the interior and exterior molding are in good shape, they're worth a few bucks if you plan on parting this one out.

If it has disc brakes, power steering and a power brake booster, more valuable options plus it'll have the correct engine stand for us FE guys.

My guess, from $500.00 to $800.00. If the chassis is straight and the underside is not one big rust bucket, maybe $900.00 to a $1,000.00.

That was my range but the guy thinks he it is giving it away for 1000. He also seems to think that the truck could be 40000 - 50000 Restored!!!!!!

I'd hand him my # and walk away. He may or may not see the light.

Honestly, The guy was pretty cool and actually had an interest in it. But unfortunately he had been mislead about the value a couple trimes. Someone told him it had an 491 in it that was worth8 grand. I will let it sit there and maybe he will eventually come to terms with sending it down the road for a much lower price.

Personally, I can't think of a more irrelevant statement for a seller to make than what a vehicle is worth when it's restored...Unless, of course, the vehicle he's selling is already restored...For one thing, other than a few high dollar cars like hemis and such, the cost of restoring will exceed that value...But it's basically a smoke and mirrors tactic, sometimes even used by nice, well-meaning people,...influencing the buyer into thinking that the old bucket of rusty bolts they're selling is somehow now a financial investment, like pork bellies or real estate...As to the truck, whatever benefits derived from only having 55,000 miles seem to be lost in it's overall condition...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

Around here you can get a rust free (100% rust free) Bump for $1500. The low mileage only means something if the rest of the truck shows the low mileage and your description does not match a good low mileage truck.

The only way I would buy that truck is if I had some emotional investment in it, which you don't.

You can buy trucks that are far less work for vastly smaller sums of money.

If what you really want is disk brakes and a 390, you can do better for the same money.

Majestyk and Z are absolutely right in that there are still a shitzillion bumps on the road, don't get stuck paying extra for a turd.

Yeah I agree with everyone that the truck aint worth it. Myh 70 is a whole lot better shape and i only guess its worth about 1800 but I only paid 550 for her. IAround Indiana there are a couple trucks that have stolen my imagination. If I buy another bump then it will actually be worth a steal and not that I am getting robbed.
