Not Just A Reader Of Stories

Post by ford4x4fun »

Well now I have my own bump story. We took off last night at about 8pm and got to my home in FL today at Noon. The truck ran real good, has a slight timing issue causing it to backfire through carb if we run around 75mph. I think it is a problem with the vacuum advance. After not being driven for any great distance for over 5 years, on this trip I believe we averaged about 13mpg and used about half a court of oil. Anyhow here are some photos!

Right after I washed it on Thursday!

Glad you made it back without any big hiccups! 13 isn't too bad. It's pretty hilly for the first part of the trip isn't it?

BTW the new tires look great.

Glad the trip went good. I like the tire /rim setup. The truck looks great.

Great Road Trip!
Darned good fuel mileage for sitting up so high.
Your bump is a beauty. How do you like the dual shocks up front? Rancho shocks seem to have good damping characteristics.
And the license plate is excellent too! :D

Welcome home! Great truck. Like the improv on the transmission mount. I'll remember that one. I'm going to pick me up a couple of those clamps. I usually keep a roll of duct tape and a couple of coat hangers in my toolbox for "emergency repairs". Those will make a great addition. but...I'm being serious. Glad the trip was trouble free.

Well I like the looks, but I you can throw some change out on the road and as I run over it I can count it up for you. Once I take it out and actually play with the truck off road I will give a better report on how they work. Right now though it does hit hard when going over a pot hole.

They worked good for holding it in place. I thought there would be to much force and just get twisted off but they didn't.

The holes in the transmission don't line up with the mount. I didn't want to go to drilling, because I have the correct transmission sitting in my shed here in FL!

Thanks everyone for the comments it was a fun trip I probably held a grin on my face for the first 12 hours, after that though when the sun came up and it got hot the grin went away and I was ready to be done driving. I am going to have to find a way to adjust the gas pedal too, It hurt my ankle how I had to hold it to keep the gas pressed. I don't know how you taller guys do it, I am 5' 11" and it killed my ankle. Now I have to get all the little things I have collected ans start a project thread! :fr:

My wife is rushing me I guess I am the only one not ready to go to the flea market...

Glad the trip went well for you. What type of system do you use for your gas peddle linkage? Still using the stock set up? I have just a rod from the firewall to the linkage with an adjustable turnbuckle at the carb. I set my peddle a little lower than normal but it still opens the carb. all the way.
