Ok, first slow down and use some puntuation and stuff so your sentences make sense.

Worse case talk to your department of motor vehicles about the title. You should be able to get one in your step fathers name and then transfer it to you.

Ok sorry about that, I was trying to say I got this truck back in 09 did not get the title done. Then I trade it to my Stepfather he did not get the title done so it is still in the first owner name, He signed the title back in 09 with out a notary so what should I do.

If its anything like SC. All you have to do is you and your stepdad go to the DMV with title and they will let him sign a form saying he is the one named on back of title and he is giving it to you. They will issuse a title in your name after you pay property taxes on it. It is that simple in SC, just hope NC is the same.

find the guy on the title and get him to notarize it. start with the owners address on the title. then do a internet search for him.

Does it have to be noterized in N C?
Some of the newer titles don't have to be noterized in some states.
You may be ok .
Call or go to DMV and ask.
Good luck.
Let us know how you come out.

It will have to be notarized. Both the buyer and seller are supposed to be present and sign the title in front of a notary.

Your best bet is one that isn't exactly "ethical" in the true sense of the word, but it's probably your only choice. If you know someone who is a notary, you may be able to get them to notarize it. Otherwise, you've got a little trouble on your hands.

The other option is to go back to the guy you bought it from and have him go to a notary with you and attest that he was actually the one to sign it.

In NC, if you take that title to the DMV, they will NOT accept the signature as genuine without a notary stamp already on it. :nono:

Good luck!!!

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

:yt: The only other root is to go through the "mechanics lean" which will take at least 90days once the paperwork is done. This basicaly is a last resort to do, cause its the legal way to take possesion of the truck by placing a lean on it. Giving the "owner" notice and time to pay the lean other wise its seized property that is awarded to the lean holder. While I don't condon the way stated above, it is the easier way to deal with the goverment red tape. Either way good luck with that.

Move to Pickens County, Georgia. Pre-1985, I think, do not require a title. A bill of sale is sufficient and it doesn't even have to be notarized. I've registered several vehicles with nothing more than a handwritten note. I once walked into the tag office with 2 scraps of paper, literally SCRAPS of paper, with handwritten "I sold VIN xxxxxxxxx to So-and-So for $X, Signed WhatsHisFace" and another one for the same vehicle by So-and-So to me and walked out with a clear registration. Cost was $40 total.

It's difficult to understand what someone is trying to say when they don't use capitalization nor punctuation and they use non-words like "tade."

they will not let you do anything without the owner signing the title that is notarized.

For some reason, I figured it would be even easier to do title transfer where you're at. Clearly I was wrong. I have stumbled into WA state licensing with a title signed over to me three years ago, slide it across the table with my license and say "I wanna put this in my name". They say okay, I hand them money, they give me a registration and in a few weeks, I get a title in the mail.
