met another bumpsider

Post by Joshpow »

these ol trucks aint real popular here but went to a show tonight and found a kinda rough ol 71. guy was nice. truck was pieced cause the steering wheel wasnt correct and had been swapped from 302 3spd to 300 auto but still workable. had a 77 stepside. cool ride. anyways he didnt know alot about the trucks and helped him diagnose column problems. clamp that holds shaft in place was loose and shaft was sliding up into cab. i invited him to our little site. kinda cool to meet another bumpside fanatic!!

I can take my truck to the biggest shows in my area & it's a guarantee i'll be the only bumpside at the show. To say these trucks aren't popular around here is an understatement. For some reason, they get skipped. It's either slicks or dents at the shows.

I do meet alot of people that say they're in the process of fixing up a bump tho. Iv'e met two fellow members: Bumpside Collector when he came to pick up a few parts & 72hiboy4x4. He works here with me at the ammo plant

I go to the Sat. Nite Cruise at Old Town in Kissimmee,FL. About once a month for years and they have on average 200+ cars and trucks and only a couple of times have I seen a bump there other than mine.

same kinda deal here. maybe 125+ vehicles and no more than 2 bumps. I hear of a nice 68 big block truck but never been there to see it. Hope to catch it sometimes. I like to meet people who have these ol trucks and try to introduce them to fordification. Also, sometimes its nice cause they can help with parts etc.

There is one guy here in town running around that has/had a short wide bump with a NASTY stroker small block in it. I talked to him at last years cruise night & he said he was using the truck as a test bed for the stroker motor. He made mention the motor was for a fox body & he would be moving it over as soon as the chassis was finished.

I guess he got it swapped over cause I don't see that truck anymore. It was a rough old bump.. I mean ROUGH.

That sucks that someone would use a bump even a rough one for a test dummy. Kinda sucked that ol guy i was talking about wasnt interested in nicing his up. it was kinda rough but still very fixable. hate to seee a truck like that just let rot. thats why i aint real fond of ratrods. too many go from semi solid to rotrods. surface issues go to holes and ruin good factory metal.

I've got at least one other bumper in my neighborhood.. Maybe more than that..
I know one guy for sure who lives about 2 blocks away that has a turquoise
bump. It's a lot better looking than mine. Maybe even a ranger.. But it's got
good paint, etc. He saw me getting gas at the store next to his townhouse one
time and asked me what year mine was.. I think his is a 69 if I remember right.
He wasn't driving it when I talked to him, but when I asked him if it was turquoise,
he said, yep, that's me.. I had seen him driving it around.

There is another guy a few blocks away that has a killer 1957 Ford. Seems like
it's a hard top convertable, kinda like a Sunliner, but I forgot. It's been restored and
is like new. It's one of the nicer 57's I've seen anywhere. Has a nice kind of two tone
champagne looking paint job.
I saw an older 60's Chevy truck parked in a driveway a few blocks away yesterday.
I think it was a 65. I know some here hate Chevy's, but I like them too as long as
they run right.. :/ I've had a 66 step, a 72 step, and a 78 3/4 ton in past lives.
I think the 72 was my favorite of the Chevy's.. I liked the body lines, and I had
Chevy Blazer buckets and console in that one. Made it kinda sporty feeling.
