hey folks. I just joined your forum today. I am the proud owner of a 1972 ford winter green F100 Custom long bed with a 360fe and a 3spd on the column with 12' drum brakes all around. My grandpa bought it brand new off the lot and has since passed it on to me. It hasn't been run in about 8 years and had been neglected during that time in the arkansas country. Years of clay and debris and a tree falling on the vehicle has left it in quite a state of disrepair. I towed it back to where I currently live in Birmingham and have attempted to restore it to some degree. I had the wheels bead blasted and rust proofed and sprayed ford winter green with some clear to match the paint. I have some hubcaps that I have sent out to a guy with a english wheel to smooth. They are ancient aluminum hubs that just so happen to fit my ford that used to go on a old family monte carlo. I took a 351 cleveland? 4 barrel intake and swapped it in place of the 2 barrel. Rebuilt a ol school holley 600 cfm with vacuum secondaries and no choke, installed a ford HEI DUI distributor from performance distributors in memphis tennessee, cut some granatelli spark plug wires(would not recommend, even if these wires are as good as they say their customer support and attention to the customer was less than pathetic), installed a overflow tank from a later model ford with some zip ties, a 3 core aluminum radiator which i modified for the oem fan shroud to fit, replaced the belts, added some ac delco spark plugs, a new battery tray and battery hold down kit from lmc(theres a gaping hole beneath mine in the inner fender well :) ), added a coolant flush T, added some wire looms, replaced all the hoses and took out the dealership added a/c(plan on reinstalling it later, was very nonfunctional), just added some bleeder screws with the check valves, added a carter fuel pump, replaced a few gaskets, and installed a huge thermostat housing with a big thermostat. She runs now thank goodness. I drove her around the block for a test drive, the first time it's been driven in years, last week. My brakes are in terrible shape and are so rusted I can't get the brake adjusters to budge no matter what. Will probably have to take it to a shop that warrantys their work to get the drums off. Also just installed a old toolbox from the 70s my grandpa had on the bed. This truck is in very rough shape but she's mine now and I will never sell her. I'm trying to make it my daily driver as I'm suddenly without transportation. I'll show yall some pictures soon. I need to explore the forum as I have many questions. Theres a lot of mystery to this truck and I need some mechanic knowledge specific to it under my belt

forgot to mention, put some trim rings on, painted a few engine parts, removed those huge side mirrors, i don't like them much, and those hubcaps have yet to be returned to me. also found a air cleaner at pull a part(mine was toast, way too rusted) had it bead blasted, and shot it with some ford blue paint. currently crafting a riser/spacer. I have no idea if it will clear the hood though. makes me sad to think it won't as i love original parts. also had my valve covers and intake bead blasted. I painted those too. added some belts, painted the fan, I know i'm missing some things. Here's some pictures. I'm about to ask some questions in some other sections of the forum as i'm running into trouble with some stuff thats got me stumped. i also put a crappy door i pulled out of the junkyard on the car as a temporary replacement,i thought i had scored because it was almost ford winter green. get this, i thought i was pulling a 72 door. when I got home i checked it out more closely and noticed it doesnt have a hole for a lock ferule! what the crap... and the door panel inside doesn't resemble my 72 soo what gives? the skin looks exactly like mine though. i pulled it off a labeled 72 ford tow truck at a junk yard. maybe a custom tow truck.
also installed a new gas tank and tore out the emissions junk. put in a fuel sending unit. vented the tank into itself and bead blasted the fuel neck, painted it ford winter green and cleared it, and installed a self venting gas cap. oh yea and i pulled the oil filter mount, cleaned it up and painted it, installed a new oil pressure sensor, with a new gasket. These things are a pain guys, remember to wrap your bolts with lots of tape prior to installing and get your gasket goo perfect. also scored a ol school valve cover air breather to match the other( the 12 pointed ones that look like black suns) installed the pcv and have yet to hook up hoses to them. painted them black to match.
the camera lens kept fogging up. it's way too humid down here.

Welcome to the site Hedz, Looks like your putting in a lot of work to fix up your grandpas truck, engine looks nice. Coulple things i see to answer some questions for you is the passenger door is a 1967 door, its a one year only. The door looks the same on the outside but its different on the inside. In 72 the gas tank were vented and if you not going to have a vent on the tank you should get a vented gas cap for a 68-69 and use that to vent the tank.

Welcome. One thing I noticed is you said your truck has a 360-390 and you used a 351C 4v intake to put a 4v carb. onto your engine. These are different engine families and do not interchange. Just letting you know. Not trying to be hard on you. Welcome to the site again. I love the trim rings and have always like a trim ring and dog dish hub cap on a car or truck.
You are doing good work on the truck. Keep up the good work

Welcome to the forum hedz. Your truck looks almost exactly like my 72 F-100. I also have a winter green 72 with long bed, 360 v8, 3 on the tree, dealership bumper, and all drum brakes. Great to see other guys with a truck that is almost like yours. I think it is interesting that you painted the rims winter green. I considered doing that but painted them an off white and put some early 70s Ford dog dish hubcaps on mine.
