72 ltd 2 door opinions
so, fellow fordification members. what do objectively thing a car like this is worth assuming it is as nice as it looks in the photos? i really like this body style, but i think he is about a grand over priced. i have seen them go for more, but with working a/c and some options like cruise and am/fm radio. also, it looks like it's leaking oil or trans fluid. i am just wanting opinions. let em rip guys.

That ltd is definetly a land yacht. It does look clean from the pics. I have never really been into that body style ltd. I think that car is worth about 2400. The biggest thing is for 3 grand would you ever get that money back? Its not really a super desirable car. I think you would be hard pressed to recoup that money when you went to resell it. I am definetly not an ltd expert I am just giving my 2 cents.

Re: 72 ltd 2 door opinions
thanks jeff. that's what i'm looking for. i don't think it's worth 3k either. i just like that body style and 2 doors are a little rarer than sedans. it has been listed several times and he keeps saying he is moving. i would buy it if i could get it for less than 1500. not a big fan of the 400 either, but have had a few than ran good.

Re: 72 ltd 2 door opinions
its probably going to be a gas hog. not as much as the 73 and up boats. i have always liked that grille and front clip. to me it isnt worth that kind o fmoney at all. because it has no resale or daily driver value. there are other luxury cars out there still with better gas mileage for a better price. how ever the ride in this car is probably pretty nice and smooth.

With the missing A/C compressor, makes you wonder what else is missing or has been modified?
I agree that it's a little over priced, but not too bad. I would get it IF it was complete and unmolested keeping in mind the relative degree of rareness due to it's age.
Are all body panels straight and rust free? How about the condition of the chassis, suspension and the rest of the drive train? Interior's condition?
The more original, the better in my opinion. I'd rate it a solid 5 or 6 on the 1 to 10 scale based on the pictures alone, but nothing beats an up close and personal inspection with test drive.

It's in nice shape, but in my experiance with the big old Fords the paint color will make a huge difference in resale value. If it were black on black or a nice red it may bring closer to what he's asking, but that green isn't doing it any favors. It's right there with that nasty beige color they used to use.

Looks like a good car. Like you said though, probably not worth what he is asking.
One thing that should never be used in the same sentence is Ford 400 and muscle car. It's a fine engine and all, but in factory trim, they are a total pig.
I have had several LTDs and like them. I would try and figure out just how firm he is on the price.

I'd pass, it's ugly green, going to be a bear to store anywhere, and will deteriorate quickly if it sits outside. Sounds like the guy got it for the same reasons he's selling it and doesn't want it, 1/2 muscle -1/2 luxury, actually not much of either...

Re: 72 ltd 2 door opinions
I've always liked the '71 & '72 style
I personally would go with a '71 first because of the drop in the front bumper
and the taillight design
Awhile back a was watching a Dk.Brown '72 in Michigan it had 38k on it and
the owner wanted $8,500
a bit much for me but it was a Brougham
and was squeeky clean.
IMO, this is a $800.00 unit.

Yeah, well the "half car half homeless shelter" line wasn't selling it very well.Ranchero50 wrote:I'd pass, it's ugly green, going to be a bear to store anywhere, and will deteriorate quickly if it sits outside. tad high, but pretty clean---see if he'll wiggle a bit---the 400 car engine is a screamer

Man that things a boat! Sweet! Not something I would buy but it sure brings back memories of the time my grandmother shut the LTD car door on my fingers and started to drive away. Ahhhhhh, memories.
