Electrical troubles

Post by cole71 »

Hi, Im new to the forum and was just looking for some help. I just picked up a 71 sport custom the only thing is the previous owner installed an oil pressure gauge, and now the light stays on and kills my battery. Also the Alternator light has also stayed on too. I'm thinking maybe a regulator but not sure? thanks Cole

Have the alternator tested first to see if that is the problem with the alt light. Most parts stores will test them for free. Check the wiring to the pressure gauge there should be a wire just for the light on it. It needs to be on a switched source like to the termanal for the dash lights or to the terminal for your accesories from the ignition switch. where the PO most likely hooked it to an unswitched source.

so yo uhave two oil gauges? where and how are both of them hooked up? are they both electrical. or is one a oil tube? and the other elcetrical.

first thing on the alt is to make sure the belt is tight. then have it tested to see if its working.

figured out the problem with the oil pressure light was just hooked to the wrong wire. real simple fix should have checked that first. thanks again for replies!

its probably a bulb. or maybe a worn out socket.
