new twist to an old craigslist scam
they called me with a automated message today. 312-218-0556. saying to call this number they had rentals in the area they wanted my services to use. since i didnt catch thier number i called them back. they say there were a referal service for banks with repossed homes. and the service was free. the jobs paid x amount of dollars. and i would get paid directly by the banks. sounds to good right? i have doen this work before through local real estate companies. so i know how it goes. so then they say the only thing we need from you is a back ground check.can you pass it. of course i can. then all it costs for the back ground check is 99.00. so i aksed them if i could send them a nigeria money order for over the amount and they refund the difference to me. i then hung up on the [censored]. i have ran into this scam before. oh yea send us the money. and then we will try to send you a job. then you never hear from them again. not me.

Re: new twist to an old craigslist scam
My wife did one of those a long time ago. They sent her a $40,000 cashier's check. All she had to do was deposit it into her account, and wire transfer a few thousand to a few different accounts.
We knew it was a scam. I wanted to frame the damn check so my friends could have a laugh when they came over, but the wife thought she might get into trouble and gave it over to the bank.
I am kinda tempted to do it again just to get a check to hang on my wall...

These happened to me when the scam first started. They sent a check to me for $5,000 and I cashed it not thinking anything about it. And yep the bank called and told me all about it. I didn't get in trouble or anything. Wish I could have kept the money thoughRanger72 wrote:My wife did one of those a long time ago. They sent her a $40,000 cashier's check.
