A day in the life.

Post by Mancar1 »

An eventful day. Called and made an apt to apply for my social secutiry. The lady asked me if i knew where the Redding Ca. office is. I said yes I was there last year with Vicki when she applied, and took Mom there when Dad passed. Well the nice lady said ok, have a good day goodbye. Well drove the 45 miles for my apt. and guess what. She forgot to tell me the office had moved to the other side of town. I found it and logged in at 0859. My apt was for 0900.
Everything works out good. They tried to convince me to wait for my full retirement age, but I told them that my situation calls for me to take it at 62. My 1st check is in Jan. and until then I am getting a widower's pension on Vicki's social security. She would be laughing about that. I thought the max earnings of $14,160. a year was going to bit me in the butt due to the offset of social security. Well it turns out that they only count my wages from the cemetery job after all my overhead/write off/deduction. whatever ya wanna call it. I'm not an employe, I am contract so I am self-employed. So I'm happy. I asked the guy what the catch is, he smiled and said there is no catch. My X-brother-in-law next door said it must be nice, your lucky. I told that him. "Luck my ass, I worked hard for what little I got." He has never held down a job in his life. People like him just chap my hide. He should have kept that pie-hole shut. He has always been on the dole.(How about that, fairness once in a while.) Just kidding. Now it is time for a Jack and cola. Nope not good for me, but hey, what the hey. Jibber the jabber and hoist the tall glass  Darn I should shut my pie-hole it will be enough for a book if I keep droning on and on

John, you're NOT droning! In fact maybe I should do the same. I'm about the same age as you, I've been self-employed since 1965...so why not!

See your post helped me see something I hadn't thought of...THANKS!
