help with carpet storage

i have several rolls of carpet in the garage from rental houses. i need to move it and or permantly store it in my garage. the stuff is in a pil on the floor now. each roll is rolled up and stacked on top of each other. i really need to move this and get it out of my way. there is no other place inhte garage to put this. i have no idea what to do with it. i cant build a hugh longe shelf to put it on. i have no room to do that. i have it on craigslist rightnow. but it probably wont sell. of course. what do you think. i dont want to throw it away.

That is what I was thinking. If there is a ceiling make sure you are screwing into the bottom of the joists and distribute the weight very evenly since a joist is not designed to take that kind of a load usually.
If it is an older garage it might not have joists at all but might be stick built. I would check

i cant do my rafters. they are only 2x4s. and i broke one o them last year stacking stuff on top of the rafters. i had to get a whol enew board to putt up there.

depending on how wide the rolls are - can you stand em up and chain them (or strap them )to the garage wall? if you can and keep the bottom of the rolls from touching the floor by chucking a pallet or something that'll let air thru under em they won't start growing mold
....i ended up having to do this in my band's rehearsal space when i contacted my buddy who does demolition asking about free carpet to use as a sound deadener and he showed up unexpectedly with a bin-truck load 2 days after my bandmates and i installed all the carpet we'd scrounged from everyone else we knew in the meantime .......i felt bad about not needing it & ended up taking about a 1/4 of the carpet off his hands....(which didn't go over too well with everybody else and then it took about a year and a half to get rid of the crap )

thats a good idea. i just need some carboard tubes to wrap the carpet around. i can probably get a few of those tomorrow. now i just have to find the wall space. i already have a pallet to use. i was considerign moving my pile of plywood and standing it up to get more room beside where the stove used to sit.

pallet wrap (or even saran wrap) works pretty good to hold the rolls closed too

yeah it probably would. i dont haeva ny of that. and probably couldnt find any for free. i would hate to buy a hugh roll of it. i would probably use motorcycle straps or just face the carpet towards each other or the wall. i think i have a plan fo rtomorrow. i am going to have to move the [censored] table deeper into the garage so i can start moving everything else. i could then walk over the top of the carpet. but the carpet will have to be moved soon in order to get the other stove out.
