Re: wont start..
ok then the igntion switch must be the problem. its either hooked up wrong or loose connection. or it could be bad. but with those switches it isnt easy to hook them up wrong. they pretty much only hook up one way.

Re: wont start..
darn...that switch was replaced not even a year ago, on account of me losing the key.
is there any way i could test it to check if it is realy bad?
it also started to act up just before i took it apart, the ign switch would not work when installed in the dash, but it worked fine if you left it dangleing by the wires.

Re: wont start..
I'd check if the dist. is 180 out that would cause the motor not to start and backfire real bad1967mercury wrote:ok..it sparks now..but it still wont start, just backfires like crazy.probably timing...
and still no interior functions.

Re: wont start..
it coul dbe loose connectors inside the ignition plug. to bypass the switch. pull the plug off. and take wire from the center lug and put it over to wire 21. and put another wire over to wire 16 at the same time. that sound start the truck and give you power to the cab. i think that is right by the diagram on this page. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... gauges.jpg but accoring to my picture the green wire also has to have power to it. that is what i had to deal with when i was startingmine. the green wire terminal on mine is actually broken. so it is just kind of hanging on there and not tight. so i need a new switch. running power to all of the wires wont hurt anything. you can try to take the terminals inside the plug and try to tighten then up.

Re: wont start..
yes the solenoid has to be grounded. i once bolted a ground cable right to the solenoid mounting directly from the battery. and that worked to start the truck. i did that because i wasnt sure about the rusty inner fender having good ground. since the inner fender was almost rusted off the firewall mount.

Re: wont start..
Have you removed ur dist cuz if you have when you put it back you could have got it twisted so now it could be 180 out1967mercury wrote:CNM67, i thought about that but the dist cap is realy hard to get on the other way.

Re: wont start..

the wire in the middle of this pic is hanging by itself, wheras it looks like it is supposed to be connected to something.

the yellow and the red and green come off the ign switch and go directly into the single brown wire.
