Re: Riders
All this talk about riding has made me realize that I do need to take a short break and do some more of it. The weather is decent right now. I think I am going to take my dualsport bike and ride down highway 101. I'll cut across over into Astoria Oregon and ride along the coast down 101 until I hit the California Border. There is some really neat stuff to see along the way.
I'll camp a couple nights. This should clear my head a little. I'll bring my camera and get some pictures to share.

its a real hoot to bomb around on,its pretty funny hauling it around in the back of the truck too, you get some pretty weird looks from the harley guyswoods wrote:I think it's cool. I just like bikes. I don't know if it's the same in B.C but in a lot of spots here, under 50cc lets you get away with stuff that you can't on bigger cc bikes.

.....up here you can insure a bike under 50cc if you've got a valid class 5 D.L. (pass. cars and trucks up to 5 ton w/o air brake) as long as its got turn and stop lights and a headlight ...and an automatic trans, which i'm trying to find a way to b.s my way around...i think that i can pull it off because it has the centrifugal clutch....
there's a bunch of guys around here that put 49 cc motors on their bicycles (one of which is a pretty cool looking schwinn chopper bike)and bomb around town unmolested by the cops, and another goofball that commutes to work on a pocketbike (mega-mini 28cc steetbike) which is pretty hilarious to watch ..

- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

Yeah...that really is pretty hardcore if you think about it. There can't be anything comfortable about that on the nicest day.Whateverman wrote:its a real hoot to bomb around on,its pretty funny hauling it around in the back of the truck too, you get some pretty weird looks from the harley guyswoods wrote:I think it's cool. Re: Riders
So get this...
I took the day off work today because I am passing a kidney stone and it's not exactly a picnic.
Anyway, the pain let up for a bit, it's a nice day, so I decided to take my bike for a spin. Not the best idea right now, but I did it anyway. I am just motoring through town and notice a cop about three inches from my back tire. If I would have stopped quick, he would have ruged me out.
So on come the lights. I knew I wasn't speeding or anything, so this must be something else. I pull over. I wait for him to get out of the car for like five minutes (not kidding) then he says over the P.A "please remove your helmet". I do. He comes up to me and gives me the standard "do you know why I pulled you over"? I tried to lighten up the mood by saying "You were lonely and wanted to talk with a fat guy?" Not even a chuckle or a smile. Oh boy. He says I pulled you over because you have a headlight out. I said that I checked it before I left with my hand in front of it and it was on, it must have just burned out, I'll fix it when I get home. He then says "you may have seen the light from the one light when you left and did not notice the other was out". I said "what"? He says "yeah, only one of your lights is burned out".
Okay, so I have dual headlight on my motorcycle. One of them is a fog type the other is a beam type. I can switch back and forth between the two or have them both on if I wish. I had one on.
I said...."ssssssoooooo, you pulled me over for having one headlight on a motorcycle"? I could tell that by saying that, I screwed up. I just brought awareness to what he had actually done, he felt dopey, so now he felt he should change the subject and find something else wrong with the bike. I ended up with a fix it ticket for a malfunctioning brake light switch on the front brake lever.
So...that was fun.

Re: Riders
I've seen an old pic of my mom and dad back in the mid 50's and daddy had a Triumph with a suicide shifter but that's all I can remember. We pretty much grew up overseas in the Mediterranean area. Back and forth there and in Texas and Louisiana. Oil field brats. Daddy worked on offshore drilling rigs and we mostly lived over there. But every summer our folks would fly us back to the states and we'd stay at grandparents for the summer. Daddy's parents lived WAY out in the sticks and Mama's parents lived in a small town subdivision. We'd stay 6 weeks with one and 6 weeks with the other. Overseas options were limited. But when summers came.... First was Sears Roebuck 5 hp mini bike at the age of about 8. At 11 my brother and I got twin Yammer Hammer Mini Enduro 60's. All our friends had those Honda 50's with the big fan balloon tires (can't remember the model #) and our little Yammers would wax their a$$es on the pipeline. They couldn't take the terraces and jump the creeks like we could. Moved up to a Honda 125 (CR?) and finally to a Honda CB550/4 in my senior year of high school. Sold it and bought a '68 GTO and that was the last of the bikes and the beginning of the cars and trucks. One of these days I'll have another bike but that'll probably be at retirement. Not downgrading any bike but the only one for me is the HD Heritage Softail Classic. I'll settle for nothing less and hold out until I can get one.

Re: Riders
Nothing wrong with having a solid preference for a bike. I have had one bike that I have held onto since around 1990, it's an FXLR. I really like it, nothing super special about it...it just fit me well. I would say it's my favorite.
