Another Bump Coming Home

Post by tnbumper »

I couldn't help but buy this bump on the way home today. It's a super solid body with only a couple of small holes in the floor. 302 with 3 speed moved to the floor. Bed floor is nice. Has a box with a p/s gear box, brackets, and pump, that was included. Windshield was replaced in last couple of years. Man asked me if I was going to scrap it! and didn't want to sell it to me if I was, it was then that I had to let on how much I love these old trucks. He was glad to see it going to a good home. Rollback to bring it home tomorrow. I've been tossing around the idea of converting my '69 6 cyl to 5.0 and this purchase has made my mind up. This truck is what I've been after so I'm going to sell the 6 cyl truck. Have a man interested in it for his 14 year old son, so I guess I'll give him first dibs. More pics once I get it home.

Congrats on the find and the addition to the "family". I'm going through the "new to me" love phase again as well right now. Once they kick you in the wallet a few times though, the love affair cools a bit. But when they are up and running and you are driving down the road, all is forgiven! lol

Basketcase Im not too far from you, about 60 miles. I see them in yards and on CL. We've got to save them before they get crushed. Wish I had a huge warehouse to put old cars and trucks in. Got this one home today. Wrecker driver didn't complain about it not having wheels, but I didn't realize the driveshaft was out, and gear dope ran out of the trans all over the deck of her rollback. Lucky she didn't charge me extra for clean-up. My wife was surprised, I guess I forgot to tell her!

Good find, and good luck with your better half  I may still sell or trade the 68 CS for a bump 1/2 ton.

Just now looking at the VIN Decoder page. PO sold this truck to me as a '69 with VIN from door, but door has been changed. So I cleaned off the number on the frame and it is a '69 F10GCF72_ _ _. All the F numbers are '69 but I don't see any this high. Am I missing something or is it because it was a Canada assembled truck?

Not sure what the doors and chassis say but the grill is a 71 of course. It is the nicest front end of any of course. You did good. Looks like a nice straight truck

What kind of wheels you looking for? CL has got to have some wheels that would bolt up to it.

Got to tinker with my new bump for the first time today other than taking a pic or two. Went by a fellow Ford truck owner's house and he gave me 5 old wheels with tires for $10. One of them held air, I appreciate him digging through his left over pile with me. Thanks Jason! I was able to get the front end off of the ground, literally, by stacking up the wheels under the frame on each side. While I was messing with the truck I got to looking around and found parts of it are in better shape than I first noticed and others are a little worse. It'll all work out. I opened the glove box for the first time and what did I find, but the title to the VIN number stamped on the frame that was signed by a PO earlier in this decade(door has been changed and I got a bill of sale on that number). This truck had been from a title state, to a non title state, and back to the original titled state, so I consider myself blessed today. Bought my new bump AS IS with a man's word as to condition of the engine and had never heard it run. Put a hot battery in her, poured a little gas in the carb, and she started right up and the oil pressure pumped right up. :woohoo: I've got to check dope level in trans as it leaked out the tailshaft all over the rollback, install the driveshaft, and go pick up another set of wheels/tires I found about 50 miles from me and I think this bump is drivable, except it doesn't have a gas tank and the bench seat is about a foot too narrow and isnt connected to the tracks. Been a good day in bumpdom!
