Get a F-150

Post by Mancar1 »

Good cup-a-joe morning.
As you all may remember I sold my 06 F-150 XLT a while back and bought the Ford Escape so Vicki could get in and out easier  . Since Vicki had given her 02 Taurus Sport to our youngest so she would have a reliable vehicle to come visit every 3 or 4 weeks. Which she did and does. :D Now that my Sweet Vicki is with the Lord, I am thinking that after the 1st of the year I may sell the Escape and get a F-150 Lariet. (Ahhh the feel of leather :) ) Kinda been thinking on the Twin Turbo 6. I like the sounds of the 21 HWY MPG. Around here I would probably get around 18 combined. I would like to wait until I could pick up a used one, but I don't know about the waiting part. I am taking the Escape in Tues. for service, and will look around the lot. I only have 13,000 miles on the Escape. My friend who is a CPA, and does my taxes, says I should wait a couple years and use up the write off on the Escape. I use it for work now, and am self-employed.
Just some of the stuff bouncing off the inside of my skull where the brain is supposed to be  I am also thinking on buying the house next door. Forclosure going for $52,000. and would rent for $850.00 Would have to have a mortgage on it, but Vicki and I have wanted it for years. Our oldest plans on moving down here from Fairbanks in the next 3 or 4 years. (If the job situation is better ) Her and her husband went there due to the job availability.
My Pie Hole Overrunith  Bottom line is that I should put these big decissions on hold till this time next year. Whatta ya'll think?

Those F150's with the ecoboost are nice. I have seen a couple. The new crew cabs are very roomy and the lariats look really nice inside.

I've tried to live by "Less Is More" and "That Which You Own, Owns You".

If your Escape is paid for and in good shape, I'd keep it. Since you know it's history, it's less of a gamble then getting a used F150 that may or may not have 'problems'.

The house next door, it used to be that real estate was a sure thing in terms of constant appreciation in value. The last few years have shown me that things are much different today as values have decreased a great deal. If your plan is to buy the home and rent it to your Daughter and Son-In-Law, that would be great. If your plan is to rent it to whomever...well keep in mind that the law is on the side of the renter, NOT the landlord. Bad situations require the lengthy legal process of eviction which are expensive and you'll not be getting income from the property while you have to continue making the mortgage payments plus legal fees for the eviction process. Lord knows the damage that renters can inflict on your home as well.

Just playing devil's advocate for you...

My aunt own 10 rental homes in the not so good area of town and has few problems. She does a credit and back ground check on the people before she even shows the house. She is tough and shrewd

Ya I should, but the Escape is a ways from being a little car. With the fast V-6 in it, I get 21-22 MPG.

I would rent it, but on a lease and hope for no trouble when it was time for the people to move.

I most likely will keep the escape for now. The only reason I would buy the house next door is so I could give it to the kids when they are able to land jobs here and leave Fairbanks. But yes I would want to rent it until then. I may get renters from hell, but they would be dealing with the old CPO, who could be the landlord from hell.   I know 1st hand about the terrabile things people could do to a rental.

Folks are getting a lot better than 21 with the new ecoboost. The EPA cycle isn't very kind to turbos so it isn't hard at all to best the EPA estimates. Particularly if you go with the 3.15 axle ratio. I've read of 28 or so on the highway.

Considering the price of entry to a 2wd Lariat is about $40,000.00 as much as I want a new F150 it is really hard to justify on logical terms unless you have something significant to tow.

From a proved standpoint after watching the "torture test" and driving one, I don't see much point in waiting it seems pretty proven to me.

John,

What your CPA states makes more sense. Something you might want to think about though...
A lot of folks are having issues with the automatic transmissions in the Escapes, and Ford doesn't seem to have an answer for it? Maybe "unload" it before it starts to show shifting issues? :2cents:

The Escape's tranny jerked like it skipped a gear yesterday. It has only done it once. May have been my lead foot  Regardless I have a apt to have it checked out next Tues at Ford. Gotta have the all important documentation. I bought it new so I have the good ole lemon law if they can not fix the problem. If there is a problem. Yes my good friend the CPA is giving me good advice. It is good to have friends in different specialties. Nothing like swapping services.

John,
When you take it in for service ask them is there is a TSB or a recall on the transmission. I believe they have to document that if there is one and you've asked. If you go over to the escape forums you'll see the trouble folks are having with the trannys.
