Remove performance parts or leave them on???

Post by dustman_stx »

First of all, this is NOT a for sale posting. Just looking for ideas and advice since I am planning on selling in the future. I have a 71 F100 that I did advertise on the forums several months ago that I need to sell. I have installed a very expensive locker in the rear axle ($500 almost for just the locker), an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake with a Holley 4 barrel and a Pertronix Ignitor ignition. I am thinking I could probably get $350 for the chunk with locker(I have an open chunk I can install), $250 for the intake, and $75 for the distributor already setup with the Pertronix ignition. Not having to do the work would be worth $200 or so to me, so I guess my question is- do you think I can get an almost $500(the amount I could get for them less the $200 I'm willing to lose to not do the work) premium for having these upgrades, or should I just pull them and put it up for sale stock? Thanks for the advice.

If I was hurting for $ I would replace performance parts and sell them seperate. I have been hurting for $$ a lot of times in past years but I am not at this point in my life. So now, if it were me I would put the truck up for sale as is and leave the stuff on. A decission that you have to make.

Dustman, I would think it would be easier to sell the truck as it sits now, The work is done, and if you have receipts to show your buyer , that is even better,,,,,,,,,,,,,,BUT, it all depends on your market, & if you want to do the rework....then you need to find multiple buyers for your items.....this is just my opinion..........only worth about a nickle, Donnie

:yt: I say leave the parts in, without them, your truck is just another stocker. Individually, performance parts seem to lose their value once they're used/installed.

I'd make it a buyers option, especially if you plan on finding another truck down the road. That way you don't do the work before selling it and you only do the work if the buyer doesn't want them.

You might get your parts premium and not have to do the work.

:2cents: is it in running condition?
cuz if it is ,unless the truck is a real toilet you should be able to squeeze an extra $500 out of it when you sell it
if the rest of the truck is trash, you might as well pull the good stuff out and either save it for the next project or sell or trade it
... i've bought alot of other peoples unfinished projects over the years and never gave any mind to how much the good parts cost them ,it was more important to me that i got the good stuff for as little as possible....
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

Ive sold a lot of car and trucks over the years and the stuff that ive put money into most of the time i havent got my money back out of them. But when people start talking me down on the price i start telling them what parts i can pull off to get it to the price that there looking to buy. Ive found that im only going to get 1/2 of what i paid for parts when i pull them off and try to sell them if there in like new condition.

All of the above .
Another option would be to decide what you could sell it for with all the performance parts on it
and go ahead & advertise it for that price. If someone buys it at that price your decission is made for you.
If no one buys it for that amount then you will have to remove the parts & sell them seperately and advertise
it again at a lower price.
Good luck.

Lots of good advice. I think I like what Ranchero and Hazelnut proposed. Maybe advertise as it is, and if a buyer wants it for what a stock rig should cost, I'll offer to pull parts to get it there.

Is the chunk a 28 or 31 spline setup?
