What would you guys think

Post by slim_chance »

Say you happen to come across a guy that is building a rather different ride. You see he is grafting a 67 mustang coupe body to a 4x4 bronco chassis. Now you find out he had a chassis with drive train sitting around and the mustang's sub frames where shot.
Do you think the guy is crazy or smart for using what he has laying around to make himself a toy?

Using what you have to make something fun is kinda what it's all about.

:yt: There's a guy in my town that put a 67 nova body on I think a jeep frame and drive train on 44in tires. I would have rather it been a street rod but each his on. That's why there is so many different cars and trucks. Just think if everyone had same taste and vehicle. Be awful boring.

Nothing the matter with it at all IMO.
I set a 71' Maverick body onto a 71' toy landcruiser running gear way...back in 83'
The old landcruiser's had a big torquey 6 cyl back then with 4.11 gears, it was fun!

I had a 59 Anglia wagon on a flatfender Jeep chassis. Fit pretty well actually. 6'3" guys like me just don't fit in Anglias though.

No pics this is something that almost happened I had a full rolling 78 bronco chassis with complete power train 351w. I was looking at buying a 67 mustang for parts for my 68 that I had at the time and if I had bought it the 2 would have met. I just didn't want to see the old girl just go to scrap. Its better than what kids are doing to their cars now. If I ever happen across a bronco chassis and a mustang on the verge of being scrapped I might actually do it one day.

I kinda shutter at the thought of this today (and I will scan and post a picture of it). I took a 68 Chevelle body, set it on a 1 ton, shortened 4x4 frame. I actually used it as a daily driver for a couple years. It had 44's on it.

when someone builds up a frankenstein 4x4 it tends to get more than a few sideways glances ,but its really no different than the street rod guys sticking 350's and chev frames under whatever they are building

a friend of mine down island had a pinto body on a s-10 blazer chassis with 1 ton chev running gear and a boneyard 350 with homemade headers ,it looked kind of goofy, but mostly because the pinto body was narrower than the axles,
he had it insured for a while ,but it was pretty sketchy to drive (or ride in) & a total heat score so the cops were all over him anytime it hit the street ,but it was still pretty fun to go mud holing in
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

woods that looked like it had a straight no rust body. That was probably still in the days you could find and buy plenty of chevelles everyday though.
