Target practicing

Post by cdeal28078 »

My daughter is home from Appalachian for the day and soon as she gets back from the hair shop with her mother we are going plinking. I just love shooting with my daughter. She is getting to be a crack shot with a pistol and I am not kidding. She is practicing for the conceal carry class with a Colt Challenger .22 Semi-auto and at 27-30 ft can keep a grouping about the size of a quarter. She has been practicing at her home in Boone so I bet she out shoots me today. My hands are not as steady as they used to be. Anybody do any target shooting?

I used to shoot often, but I gave it up when some unknown person kept moving the target just as I would squeeze one off. Did someone say not as sturdy as once was?

I have a Gamo bigcat I keep on the mill in the garage for stress relief. I'll tape a penny to the wood shed's inside wall and pepper it on occasion.

I like to shoot and hunt too. My kids all do too. I have my own little area to shoot pistols out behind my house and we go out there sometimes and go through a few rounds.

Sounds like you have some real heritage in your family Woods.
It was opening day of Dove season and where we went to shoot there were several dove hunters in the area blasting anything that flew. They were far enough away for it to not put us in danger and we had a great back stop for their protection but the shot guns were messing with my Daughter's aim. So she didn't do as good as usual. We only stayed about 15 minutes since she was nervous. I could hear the shot falling through the leaves near by. lol
Before we left I fired my new to me S&W Model 36 .38 special at about 30 feet. 5 rounds in about 5 seconds shooting single action and had a group about 2" which I thought was pretty fair for such a short barrel.
I need to get a rifle out and fire it soon. Been a long time since I've fired a long gun.
I had a great time with her even though we didn't stay long. We will go again next time she is home. I love taking my daughter shooting.

My daugher and three college buds were in town for the weekend...we went to the range and shot .22 rifles, .38 handgun and .357 hangun. One of her buds is visiting from England and she really wanted to shoot a gun. Bottom line is we had a great time, and the British guest outshot her American comrades with the .22. It was tie on handguns...we were shootin ballons on the the target frames...burned a box of shells and taught them the rules of handgun safety. I didn't shoot, but I was wore out when we got back...being a range proctor/instructor is tough. A cold beverage and some of the wife's homemade stew brought me back to life though.

I don't like a range either. There is a family friend with about 20 acres right up the road and he lets us shoot there anytime we ask. I always tell him just so he'll know. It is just a gully with a big red dirt wall as a back stop but is real safe. My daughter is practicing for her conceal carry class even though she can probably shoot better already than most of the other people that will be in her class. When my father and I went I was shocked at how close the target was. There was no center left in either of our targets. lol Our instructor was a very nice woman well versed in firearms and she was pretty shocked at out abilities. She asked if we had just started shooting. lol My dad used to shoot for his supper every night down in Eastern NC. If he didn't get a Squirrel or rabbit they didn't have meat. No kidding. He started teaching me firearm safety and target shooting as soon as I could hold the old Marlin Monte .22 rifle. lol

Just took my 11 year son trap shooting for the first time today.

And the little stinker hit the clays 10 out of 32 shots.
