Friends who wanna help but never get round to it!!

Post by Joshpow »

Sorry guys. Litle rant here and not towards anyone here cause they aint the friends promising. Am I the only one who gets people saying "When you get the stuff to do that just holler at me. Ill Help."? Then, they are always and I mean multiple tries ALWAYS busy when you holler. Got friends that were supposed to help do some body work and mechanical work on the ol RustBucket and never find time. Very frustrating! Oh well, I guess Ill be learning alot of new stuff and on my own. Sucks!

Know the feeling all to well Josh, 3 no shows for me and you aren’t a friend anymore. Sound harsh :pout: but when I say I need help then I really need help. I don't ask much of people I do most on my own. And if your a friend of mine then you know me and know I mean what I say. I always plan ahead when I need help so if you offered help then I will always give you a heads up as to when I need you to show up. If a friend ask me for help they know I will be there. Sorry your "so called friends" are to busy to be a friend.

I don't have a lot of friends but the friends I have I consider close. I would never loose one of them because they couldn't help me work on my truck when I needed them to. People have their own lives, children, jobs and troubles to worry about. Some people, such as though with young kids are still trying to get used to having a family of their own. A true friend will be there, if possible when you REALLY need him. Such as when you are stuck on the side of the road at midnight on a rainy night. That is when a friend is a friend. lol Not when you are working on a rusty bump. lol

I aint gonna drop them as a friend but when someone for several months says they wanna help it makes them seem really truthful when you give heads up in advance and they dont even waste their time to say aint coming. Ive spent several hours working to help them with jobs comparable in nature to my "rusty bump". I dont ask for help unless theres no way around it. I like the feeling of accomplishment and if I do it on my own I dont feel like a bum. So, if I ask for help it aint just cause I dont wanna do it or want them to be part of it. My point aint whether they help. Just sure hurts when theres always open promises. I understand they have lives and families. Just be honest with me. If I am asked to help them and I say yes Ill be there. If something absolutely outta my control comes up I know how to pick up a phone and let them know at least. Makes me question if I could even get an answer if I were needing help in a bad situation. Just sucks for them to promise and act like they wanna be around and then drop without as much as a call to let me know. Open ended promises really dont cut it. Id respect a person who wouldnt even waste time promising more than one who promises and never shows. One thing I am aggravated over is my "rusty ol bump" is my only vehicle to drive now. The front brakes were shot and lines blowing everywhere. Called and buddy said yeah we will do it this weekend. Ok thanks and explained why. No show. Same next weekend. Whole time im throwing brake fluid in it every couple days and driving a dangerous mess. Ended up having to bum another guy to come help me swap to the discs. Not like the work here is just a toy for me. Its my daily driver cause my other truck needs a 1000 dollar clutch and a radiator. So, gotta drive what I got and can afford and if it were them in the situation id at least let them know if I changed my mind. Its been over a month since that happened and doesnt even act like it ever went on. Reason I kinda flared up today was asked him to drop by sometime and got the deal that would when time permitted. Said I should come see him. Ive been there several times since hes visited me. Kinda makes you realize just how high you rank in the mix of things! Oh well suck it up and go on! There will be some way to get crap done. Even if it means strain your guts out moving a bed by yourself and screwing up and costing more time and money cause you dont know crap bout a job and the people who do dont wanna lend a hand or even time to give advice! Take care guys.

yes, help in general not just my projects. I have 3 kids and a wife and I'm as busy as anybody out there. Football, soccer, volleyball practice, work 50+ hours, a large yard to mow and 3 project vehicles. Most of my "friends" are good close friends but if you tell me you will do something 3 different times and your a no show 3 times..... how close of a friend are you then really? :? It's all good everyone has a different opion on what they consider a friend to be anyway. And a lot of people these days are so wrapped up in their own life’s to take the time to be what it takes to be a true friend. Those are the ones that I have no patience with. Talk a good talk but can't even crawl when it comes to walking the walk.

I made kids and as long as they live at home I have help. Not recommended for everyone but it works for me. :)

I also have access to all sorts of cool equipment, granted I usually have to fix it so I can use it but I digress. :?

So, one kid, one working tow truck, two 6' long 4x4's and some chain and picking the bed isn't a problem.

A decent jack, enough lumber and some ingenuity and you can pull the bed by yourself. Lift the bed one side at a time, slide some 10' 4x4's on top of the frame crossmembers, slide the bed back on the 4x4's, then lift the front of the 4x4's and put a 10' 4x4 crossbeam under them. Support the ends of the crossbeam with cribbed jackstands or barrels or something, so the same with the back and drive the truck out from under it. Might take a couple hours but no one get their fingers smooshed or the paintwork dinged.

Sometimes you just have to work with what you got...

Ive learned ive got two types of friends. The one that are always there for the good times (beer drinking buddys), lots of those. And the ones that will actually help you if you ask for it.

I got bed pulled. I just dont have any way of getting it moved around to work on it. No tow truck or tractor in my fleet yet and no money to buy one!! Sucks to be broke. I cant even get them to come visit. When there aint no work there still aint no friends present!! My poor wife would help but work and lack of strength keeps her from helping much! It just sucks for my 5'3" wifey to try to drag around stuff she cant even attempt to lift! Dont wanna change that so when I tick her off working on the ol thing she cant find something to chunk at me and hurt me!! Just kidding. Man it helps to talk to real friends. Even if you never met them. I feel better already. Goodbye attempts to wrangle friends and hello to even more redneck ingenuity to get the job done!

i can usually get my bro to give me a hand if i'm doing stuff on a vehicle...usually...but he lives about 60 mi from here so its hard to schedule stuff
the ol' lady will help if there's no chance of her getting covered in greasy stuff or smelling like gas or oil....so that kinda keeps her from getting asked very often
its rare that i can talk any of my friends into giving me a hand doing anything mechanical -as soon as i mention that a vehicle is involved forget it,they're busy (which is honestly just as well because most of my friends are useless with vehicles).. just about anything else and they'll usually help out if i bribe em with a few beers or a "smoke" or 2 ..but at least they let me know , if they didn't they'd just be acquaintances.

sorry 'bout your luck,i know how you feel
