Irere makes dolphin swim into fresh water behind my house

Post by hazelnut »

Got a call monday from my cousin telling me ill never guess what swimming behind my house in the creek, I give the best answer i could think of and say "jumbo blue crabs" :D but i was wrong. A 7 foot bottle nose dolphin. I didnt get home till dark monday so i got up early tuesday morning to look for my self, Sure enuff, Thier it is swimming around coming up about every 5 minutes for air. My cousin come down when i was watching and we started talking about what the heck do we do to get it back to salt water, Said the guy next door is going to call someone about it. I live about 80 miles from the ocean and the closest salt water is the James River and its 30 miles away. I watched the dolphine for about a hour to see if i could get a picture but i was to slow to get one. Cousin got a few but they are not as good as the papers got.
Now its on the Richmond and Norfolk news and in the papers.

Sure hope it finds it's way back out, that's a long way from food!

After a failed mission by the VA aquarium wednesday to help the dolphin, And i mean failed in so many ways. The dolphin was found dead friday by my cousin, The dolphin was out of water stuck between two cypress knees and white, He towed it back in to the shoreline to be picked up by the VA aquarium and taken back to VA beach.

That is so sad! Always breaks my heart when "Mother natures" wrath takes a toll on our wildlife. There are a lot more marine wildlife rescue folks. If memory serves me correctly rattown, (I mean Orlando's) Seaworld has one such team that mobilizes for similar rescue missions?
