This year all i want for Christmas is 20min in a locked room with the designer of the 2v 5.4 windsor engine! I finally had to change out the plugs on my 03 SCab at 140k miles and it was a challenge! It took about 4.5 hrs to change them. Ford really screwed up! I had to really try to remain calm during this adventure as to not break anything! Thankfully it all turned out ok and the F150 is running like new! Now the fingers are crossed hoping that they dont back out on me! Now that my rant is done Im feeling much better. Thanks guys!
No sire, the true pain is changing the rear passenger side plug on a '92 Exploder with the 4.0l, there's almost enough room to get a wrench on it and there's a nice fibergalls pad to rub on for an hour while you slowly get the plug out...
Next worse for me has been the wifes '02 Explorer with the coil on plug 4.6, water loves to get in the rear plug gally and short out the ignition...
When Ford came out with trucks that put the windshield over the engine for no good reason I figured there's no reason to own an newer one. When they insisted in a running cornbinders I knew there was no good reason to have one. The flip side is dad's '03 4x4 F250 is still running on the original Perrelli's at 82k miles and other than brakes oil and fuel it's been a real good truck.
my bro and i did a 4.6 to 5.4 swap in a 97 f150 last year - those mod motors are the worst engines to work on ever -ever had to get a pry bar to force an engine into an engine bay? (even after tearing the intake off?)
for even more fun try changing the starter in an AWD aerostar with a 4.0 (this was todays adventure ,so much for having a day off to do nothing...more like a day to get nothing done)- you have to rip the front driveshaft out to even get to the top mounting bolt...i gave up when i shattered my 10mm socket trying to get the bolts on the nasty pig's shaft loose from the flange on the front diff - as much as it kills me to do it this job is getting passed onto a professional
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...
