Stay safe out there! Hope your local FD gets everything out soon. The weather is getting better. Bastrop has it the worst. Approximately 1000 houses are believed to be destroyed and four dead. This is the worst year in Texas history for wildfires on record.wildcard wrote:These are some pictures of the wildfire near my house in Linden Texas
We have been having a tough time with our own wildfires where I work, but the good part is our fires are away from homes and no one has been hurt. Here are some pics.

Seriously folks...if you're in a parched wildfire area and you have your property, especially out of town...find a plow and turn up a firebreak around your place...as wide as you can make it. That was standard OP when I was a kid and we lived up on the prairie North of the Caprock, but it seems to have fallen out of favor/practice with a lot of landowners in the last two decades. Kinda like a snow fence or tree belt/wind break up on the Northern Great Plains. Keeps your fencelines clean, and good fences make for good neighbors. My heart goes out to those in the wildfire areas.

Re: Linden Texas wildfire
They said this morning that the fire is contained after 5 days, for now. Last I heard yesterday there were 30,000 acres burned here. I believe there were 4 homes lost and 1 church. Lots of barns and outbuildings were lost also. But no lives. 2 firefighters were injured. 1 with heat exhaustion and 1 had burns to his hands and face.
On a good note, we were about as safe as we could be. They set the Command Center up right across from our house. Plenty of fire trucks coming and going constantly.
