Need 2 fix A/C

Post by Mancar1 »

Driving the 68 a bunch of miles since the Escape dissapeared Tues. morning into the Vortex known as the Ford Service Center. (Thank goodness for the warranty.) Sure has made me realize that, I GOTTA FIX THE A/C.

I hear ya! Drove my 68 down to Modesto in 100 degree heat the other day. Ford sure did a good job of making their ovens road worthy
If the definition of crazy is "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result " It would certainly explain why I keep buying these old Fords

I have thought about buying a after market system. If and when I do my old system will be available. Mine is a dealer installed

Myself, I'd stick with that one if the evap core is not leaking and the blower is OK.
Always better to stay original if possible.. I think anyway..
What is wrong with that system? Compressor pooped out?

Mike, that is a factory AC setup. Depending on how long its been out of service, you may need to go through it and make sure the expansion valve is ok and evaporator doesn't leak. Other then that you need the compressor, hose lines, and condenser. I bet your condenser is still on the front, but it will need to be tested and/or replaced. Does the fan and heater work?

That would be the condenser in front of the radiator.
The evaporator is the coil that is inside the truck.

Everything is there. The blower motor is not working. I haven't messed with it so all I know right now is that it was like this when I bought the truck. The original owner had passed on and his niece told me that he had taken the belt off it and hadn't used it since the 70's. I suspect that was because the blower went out and since he lived in the Northwest he didn't fix it because he didn't need it that much. I think it is time to start trying to get it lite-off and on line.
Where is my torch

HA! you are right, my mistake. I knew that, but I was tired when I wrote that, I even wrote about the evaporator inside correctly right before that. 65.5 hours of overtime in one week on top of 72 hours of regular time makes me tired and easily confused. :hmm:
